2000 Hesitation

A few months ago, my check engine light came on. I took it to a local mechanic who said that the light was attributed to my catalytic convertor being below threshold. He told me that I could still drive it, but if I noticed a drop in gas mileage or performance, to bring it in. I started noticing an acceleration problem last week when leaving a stop light or stop sign, but no problems getting through the other gears. I brought it in and we changed the convertor.

According to my mechanic, the hesitation is now worse and he won't give me back the car until he finds out what is wrong. He checked all of the vaccuum lines and sensors and they all seem ok. There is no check engine light and the computer says everything is ok.

I remember working on my old Jeep Cherokee where I needed to disconnect the battery to reset the computer, and even then, I had to drive the car until the computer re-learned the timing, sequence, etc.

Any ideas?

I was working on a Camry with the same problem. And I couldnt' find anything wrong with the car because it was so intermitant.
So I called Toyota tech assist. and they informed me that they had a case where the sub O2 sensor would intermitantly short to ground. when this happened the ecu thinks that the cat is still cold and would attenp to heat it up faster by adjusting fuel trim. This is a long shot, but it is some thing to think aboult. Gook luck
