2000 needs new tires, problems

Let me intruduce myself...I love my 4runners, started with the '95, then the 2001, 2002, and 2003 which was too big for me (5'5", 125) and I almost ran over a honda...couldn't see out those new mirrors...I ended up back with a 2000 and it's been somewhat problematic!

My check engine light has been on for a year & a half...Toyota said it was that I needed new catalytic converters but at the 3K price they quoted me...I went straight into bankruptcy after that...and did not replace them...for real...as my 8year old would say... so needless to say, check engine light is still on...

I started getting terrible gas mileage and went in & had the codes read...It was my air throttle sensor or something like that & I boght the part & my mechanic put it in...mileage has been fine but here's the deal...before the gas mileage went bad...it started acting up whenever I'd start the car.

Sometimes it would start...sometimes not...not like a starter problem per se, but more like the rpms went up & then straight down...ever since I put the sensor in, about a month ago...it's 95% better...could it be something else?

Could it be the computer's out of whack because of the check engine light...I know someone else who has a 2000 with a similar problem...friend of friend...but haven't heard back on it...it just completely stops...

My brake light comes on from time to time...especially in the morning, right after I start the car...my brake is not on, there is brake fluid & my brakes are not bad...what gives?

Is it all computer related? Anyone with any of these problems/experience?

Now, my tires that were on the vehicle when I purchased it with 67K miles are about done...they're rotting, cracking and ready to go....I'm pretty broke, do have $300 to put on tires and I'm about to be closed in my bk but didn't know if the Florida trustee wanted to take the truck...with all these problems, it's pretty unlikely...I do own the truck but my mom has a lien on it....so it's safe...but I didn't want to go & do it up with this SUV if I wasn't sure I was going to keep it...would love to trade it on a 2002 after I get out of financial problems....

Any tire recommendations...with my luck...I've always put new ones on & then sold the 4Runners...if I do that again...I don't want to be out $600 when I'll probably let the truck go for 8K...with it's issues...or trade it in...
