2001 4runner idling high, sometimes won't crank, sometimes dies when I put in drive

When I crank my 4runner it sometimes won't crank, it just continues to try and turn over, it almost feels like its flooded. I'll let it sit for a second and it will always eventually crank after a few tries.

It also idles high, around 2k rpms. When i put it in gear it continues to idle high, and will drive faster than it used to with no foot on the pedal.

Sometimes when it's idling high in neutral and then i put it in drive it will die, or almost die and barely catch back on.

I do have a CE light on but it's been on a lot longer than this has been going on and the last time i checked the codes, before the idle problems, it said it was an evap issue.

Something else, which probably isn't related, is when im filling it up the gas handle always clicks too early. I usually have to pull it out a bit for it to not keep clicking off too early. I read this might be a charcoal canister issue.

I have tried cleaning the MAF sensor to solve the idle problem and it didn't fix it.

Any idea what's going on?

Yeah this looks like the problem. Sensor ordered. Looks like an easy install fortunately.

Your high idle could be a vacuum or since your rig is drive by wire there could be something up with the Throttle Body stepper motor or it’s full of sludge and can’t close all the way. High idle with the drive by wire is not fun to troubleshoot.

Look for cracks in the rubber intake track between the air box and the throttle body.

Is your scanner capable of reading live data?

Yeah this looks like the problem. Sensor ordered. Looks like an easy install fortunately.

Installed the sensor. Unfortunately it's still idling high and struggling to crank. That temporarily fixed the CEL, although I suspect it might come back since I cleared it after doing the MAF cleaning and it probably was only showing the O2 sensor code and I bet the evap code will come back in a few miles.
