Sweet. That clears that up, Thanks! what kind of switch did you use? Id like something that looks factory... like the Trac-off switches Ive seen? not sure what to order

I used one of the marine style switches I was able to get locally at a boat dealership. It needed a little trimming to fit in the kick outs on the dash but it looks good. mine was 7 bucks and I think the toyota dealer wanted 16 for a foglight switch

I had a switch off of what I believe was a Toyota Avalon

First switch i out in i just went to Home Depot and got a momentary switch. And put it in one of the spots thats already there. I had just a black dot that I'd push until the lights came on saying i disabled it. After than i found one on a wheelchair lift at pic an pull. It says normal/override.

I used a factory Avalon switch and a relay since the switch is normally open and closes when pressed. You want the circuit normally closed until you hit the switch so a relay is needed to flip flop. Just hold the switch until Trac and VSC turns off, maybe 3-4 seconds.

You by chance don't have a write up on this do you? I'm getting ready to do this mod, and would like to see how you wired in the relay.

If I want to turn mine off permanently, Do I just cut the wire and leave it cut? Or do I have to do something else to it?

Don't cut the wire. I used a write up I found on another forum and used a wire bent in a 'U' shape to connect two things under the hood to turn it off/on. I know that is really vague but I haven't done it in so long. I'll try to find the article but DO NOT cut anything

Anybody have more information about the relay that is needed to do this, and how to wire it up? I have this switch, and would like to keep the factory look. I'm perfectly capable of wiring this up, just need to know how.

sounds like he just used a normally closed (NC) relay. wire it just like any other relay... they usually have the diagram on the packaging.

your trac off switch controls the relay, and the relay controls the trac circuit.

Do you know where you can find a NC relay? Is this something a local parts store will have or a Radio Shack maybe?

i've found relays in any auto parts store before. i assume they have the NC type, but admittedly i've never had a use for one.... IIRC, the diagram on the relay shows the un-energized state. so you'll want to find one that shows a closed circuit on the package/top of relay.


EDIT: ok, looking around the internet, looks like a 5 pin relay can be wired to be either NC or NO. so you should be able to find a 5 pin relay at any auto parts store.

notice in the picture, if you use 87a, it is a NC relay. if you wire to 87, it is NO.

new to 4WD and the 4runner. didn't realize that the 2008 V8 has full time 4WD so regarding this thread, is it something I might be able to do on the 2008? If so , would it be beneficial ?

How to do I wire lighted switch?

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to first say thanks! I did the Andy-Mod yesterday and it works like a dream. A quick dirt road burn-out confirms
My question is how to wire up a lighted switch. Where is a good place to draw power from? Any tips or pics are appreciated.
