Hey guys!

I just purchased my 4R and am so stoked to have it! I am also new to this site and I want to buy a new head unit to replace the original one. My main question is does anyone know how to remove the front console so I can get the wad unit out? I saw a thread for the 01 4wd but not for the 2wd. If this subject has been beat to death then I apologize in advance but I'm eager to get my hands on that info. Can someone help me?

Not sure but I don't think there is any difference between the two (ie your on your own with my hints:))). I had mine out last week to trace a short (I have 4WD) but it should be similar. There are three parts held in by clips so I needed to pull. I pulled the cup assembly and then the lower fascia plate. I then pulled of the bezel surrounding the AC controls and vents. All came off without tools. You can then (carefully and labeling) remove the wires to the controls and the radio is right there. I did my radio a while back but I had a brackets kit to mount it and a wiring harness connector to plug into the factory. Be aware that the factory radio is odd sized so you probably need a kit and a plastic pocket unless your replacement takes up all the space. When you replace the three pieces work from the top down since the middle piece needs the cup holder bracket outside it

Thanks ur input... I'm going to take a look at it before I buy a head unit... To see if it's easy to do... Or if I'm over my head... Who doesn't love saving money right?

Simple I've taken mine apart like 10 times in the past two months I owned the truck and I just did it again yesterday to rewire the sound system.
The part down by the shifter so the trim around it pops off the truck has to be in N or under so u can get the piece out, after that is out wiggle the top of the console loose it's held by clips once that's out disconnect the plus for the hazards, ect power, defroster and clock and at the bottom the 12v outlet plus need to be removed once that is out you will have the head unit exposed and it's held by 4 bolts make sure u buy thE right wire harness adapter and dash kit from best buy or a autozone so you can install it correctly pm me if u need help
