2002 4Runner or 4th Gen?

Hello,

I am the owner of a 2007 4Runner SR5 but have become infatuated with the 2002 4Runner with the fender flares. I'm debating on whether to hunt down a 2002 4Runner as a project car or simply put the money into my current 2007.
Other than having to fork out the initial cost for the vehicle, is it worth spending the money on maintaining a 2002 model? And is the 2007 model vastly superior to the 2002? Thanks in advance!

really depends on what you wan to do or use it for.. I liked my 3rd gen because it was rugged. It was very clean and had no damages. However it cost half the price of my 4th gen. So i was not too concerned about dings and cosmetics of it as I do with the 4th gen. Its better for trails if that is what you are looking for. Space in the trunk is the same if not a bit more. Seating space is alot more tighter than the 4th gen, as far as width.

The 4th gen feels more comfortable but also feels more plastic and less better made.

4th gen daily driver with family..

3rd gen better for trails. also decent daily.. not as comfortable, feels more like a truck. more noise.

Thanks for your feedback bpowa. It's a tough call. I like the idea of a tighter package in the 3rd Gen but still want a comfortable ride. Will have to take some out for a spin I guess. Thanks again.
