2002 Rear Diff leaking from fill hole.

I have a 2002 4Runner and was shocked to find an oil spot in the driveway today. I looked under and found that the rear diff is leaking from the fill hole. I have 40k miles and have never had the fluid changed. My guess is that the Vavoline Instant oil change station opened the diff fill hole to check the level or something and did not re-tourqe it correctly.

Has anyone had the rear diff leak?

Can anyone tell me what the correct torque specs are?

The correct torque for the fill, and drain plugs is 36 lb-ft.

Make sure the gasket is still on the plug.

But at 40k miles, I would change the gear oil anyway.

I would also have the transfer case oil changed. That is assuming your 4Runner is a 4x4.

Better check your pan plug as it is probably finger tight also.

The fast lube places are famous for this, along with not tightening the oil filter.

This is why I do all of my own maintance on my trucks and cars. It's not worth it for some kid that is making 6.75 an hour and doesn't care, to fuck up my truck that I care so much about.

I would check all of your drain bolts just to make sure they are all tight who know's what else they may have checked
