I really don’t see them as a performance upgrade. I have a sport with the 338mm rotors and I just see these as a replacement calipers. That being said, I will go with the PowerStop z36 pads over the z23. I tow a lot. But I figure I’m on borrowed time with the original calipers before they seize.

Can't speak to the calipers but I had the PowerStop Z36 kit (pads & rotors only) on my '07 Sport for several years and they were great. One disadvantage is that few if any shops will turn drilled & slotted rotors but I think most people put new ones on anyway. I didn't have any complaints as some do about mud buildup b/c of the drilled/slotted configuration despite going offroad numerous times.

To your question, I went back to an all OEM setup a while back b/c I was able to get all the parts from Toyota at the same cost as the PowerStop kit. My personal opinion is that the OEM setup is as good or better than the Z36 in terms of performance, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Z36 if that's more cost-effective than OEM when I next replace the components. Definitely interested in picking up some sweet calipers like [MENTION=148873]theladyviola[/MENTION] if I find a deal like she got.

Lucked up and caught them at a liquidator warehouse and it was their last set. Just saw they have the Z36 pads for the front for $25 so I’ll be making a trip back. The boxes were a little banged up but the parts are spotless. I’ve been running the PowerStop rotors on the front for years with no issues. I’ll usually throw a digital caliper on the rotors and then drop them at Oreilly’s or the like to be turned (slotted in my other car, haven’t had to turn the PS yet). Absolutely no doubt if I could get ones from Toyota for the same price, I’d go that route. This was just too good to pass up.

Awe, thanks friend! That sh!t hurt less when I was 41 and just started in this group. At 47, I grumble at the thought of even taking a wheel off!

Ha, I've been wrenching on things since I was a kid and at 55.8 I know what you mean. Especially laying under a car in the winter. Not so fun but I still enjoy much of working on them. Now it sometimes takes days to bounce back. Stretching helps a ton.

Agreed. I laugh when I pull wheels on my Scion because they feel like toys. The 4Runner is another story!

I can imagine how tough things will be in 20 more years. Work smarter not harder I guess, roll the wheels on with the car barely jacked up. Good that you're still doing it. As they say, use it or lose it.

Completely appreciate this. I was about 25 when I got really hands-on. Now sometimes my hands take a couple more hours to wake up than I do.
