2004 v6 reliability after headgasket repair?

Recently bought a 2004 v6 4runner, impeccably maintained by toyota. In reviewing the service records it appears the headgasket of my new to me ride was replaced last year. Whats the long term reliability like after headgasket repair on these things?

I've looked a all the threads regarding pre-2006 head gasket problems (mine's in the shop now) and never seen anybody say their's failed after replacement. It was a defect in the gasket, and yours would have been replaced with the improved gasket.

Sounds like yours was replaced by the dealer. I'd be feeling pretty good about another 100K miles.

Can that really be answered? Just because it was dealer maintained doesn't mean that it was under the care of engineers at Toyota corporate. "Dealer maintained" is only a positive when someone is selling you a vehicle. You'll find that as many ASE certified morons can work at a dealer as they can at Jiffy
Lube.

Dealer maintained, in this instance, is indeed a positive because it shows it was maintained to the specifications outlined by the manufacturer. Im willing to bet that well maintained vehicles are more reliable than vehicles that arent...

But regardless, my question really was more if the headgasket fix would be a long term solution, or if it was likely id have issues again in the future.

Replacing head gaskets is a job if not done correctly there would be obilvious issues within a couple of days at the most and a dealership isn't going to put an newbie or inexperienced tech on such a job, they would put a tech that has internal engine work experience on the job, to much libility otherwise, with the updated head gaskets there shouldn't be any issues as far as the gaskets goes, other rather minor parts that weren't replaced could goes bad later due to age/mileage of the vehicle but they would of failed anyway and wouldn't be related to the head gasket job.

If it does fail again, you'll get 150k more out of the engine. By then, you'll have to also replace the valve seals and maybe timing chain guides and other maintenance.
