2005 4 Runner Changes

I found these specs on another board I belong to which had details of information for the new 2005 4Runners...

Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules for copying and pasting, but here it is.

Changes for the 2005 4Runner include the new V8 VVTI with 270 HP, beginning with November production, 330 FT lbs torque. Both motors will get the 5-spd automatic transmission, and a new shift control system for handling up-down grades is newly installed. The system regulates throttle openings and vehicle speed to help reduce unnecessary shifting uphill for achieving optinmal driving force and help shift down automatically to achieve optimal engine braking force downhill.

An auto LSD (Limited slip diff) switch introduced as the escape function exclusively for 2WD vehicles replacing the current TRAC OFF switch.

Cruise control cancel has a memory function to reset to original "cancelled-at" speed, even when car drops below minimum speed.

AUTO LSD indicator added to gauge cluster

Rear Spoiler design changed to enhance deflection performance.

Front passenger airbag sensors added.

NAV system now available on cars with third row seating - Limited only, and will include JBL audio with 8 speakers, no cassette, non-synthesis.

Damn, I should have waited a year and picked up a V6 with a 5 speed or even a more powerful V8. Any word on the gas mileage on the V8, will it be comparable to the current V8?

So what's the synthesis do in the existing 4Runners? I have the JBL 10 Speaker BTW...
 
Its looking more and more like I will end up trading my Runner in when I hit the 3 year mark! V8 here I come! Im sorry I didnt get that in the first place!

It is OK to post something you got from another board. You might even post the link. I am wondering how credible this info is. They are probably building the 2005 now or in the next week or two. One concern is you quoted "beginning with November production", does that mean the first 2005 will not have VVTI? From what I have read, it makes sense that the V8 will get variable valve timing.
 
I was debating whether I should post this as well. The source appears to be rather credible. Apparently one of the mods at the other site works at Carson Toyota.

I have been waiting for a couple of month's to purchase one. It looks like the wait for an 05 might have paid off.

I am guessing the V-6 will get better mileage now since it will have an extra gear (cruising gear)?

The current 4-speed already has an overdrive cruising gear...

What we really need is a Constant-Variable Transmission to get rid of shifting altogether...

I am actually a member of the Tundrasolutions board, which the info came from. I would bet it's 100% credible, it came from the Fleet manager at Carson Toyota in California. She actually sold me my current Tundra and I have no reason to doubt her. She's always been upfront and accurate with all her info. Hopefully I will be in position to trade up to a 05 when they come out. It's only a few months away.

I was also curious about the November production date for the new VVTI V8. Typically since model year changes usually happen around now, I'm not sure if it will change a few months into production or what the deal is...

I wonder if they are adding / deleting any colors as well?

This is definitely not new information to me either. When I was talking with a Lexus salesman at the auto show, he told me that the new GX470's are getting an engine update for sure in 2005. He told me that the rumor is 270hp with VVTI. He wasn't sure if they would put this engine in the 4Runner for 2005 though. I guess he was accurate too in his information.
 
Wow...if 2005 4Runner will be 270hp... I would like to exchange my 4Runner...Not that I don't like it...But I like more horse power...In case I want to exchange it...how much do you think my 4Runner will be worth? It was 29 G. It is still excellent.


BTW, with those improvement for 2005 4Runner, will its cost be increase as well?
 
I bet thats why they put the Superchargers on hold. That pisses me off, why didn't TOYO put that Horsepower rating on the 4Runner to begin with?

Does anyone know if with the VVTI, the V8 might get better mileage as well? I would assume just with the higher HP number that it would be similar if not worse than the current #, but since I don't know much about VVTI or how it works, I wasn't sure if it would make much of a difference.

Plus, from reading the specs on the new 05 Sequoia with the new 282 HP VVTI engine, the gas mileage is much better and rated at 16city / 22hwy. So maybe it will be more efficient?
 
With the VVTi thing, that system makes the engine more efficient with the energy being thrown around. Theoretically, you should get better gas mileage, but will that be the case with almost 40 hp more on tap? Maybe, we will be able to find small changes other than with ECU tuning on the 05 motor. For example, has anyone ever got underneath their truck and looked at the collector for the two e-manifolds? That thing has got to be holding up some ponies. Maybe the e-manifolds are different? That is something that I would be willing to explore.

Not sure...the 2003's also had a green color which was discontinued as well, right? I thought I saw one on the road the other day, but my eyes could have been deceiving me.

I know that the Salsa Red is currently offered on Tundra's and other Toyotas models.
