2005 new owner - dinging noise with key removed? Ignition not matching door lock?

Hi guys, just picked up a new-to-me 2005 4runner, and I've noticed some oddities...

1. I get the dinging noise, even if the key is removed, while the door is open. Open it, shut it, open it again, still dinging. Is this normal?
2. The ignition key does not work in the doors. Is this an old GM style setup with a different key for each, or was something replaced and/or not working correctly?

Any help is appreciated. I searched, but results were about disabling the ding on 3rd gen, nothing about the normal operation of the 4th gen.

I figured out the problem with #1 this morning. I stuck the key in, turned it, nothing, battery dead. I noticed I could pull the key out in OFF and in position #1. Greaaaat. Battery is now on charge. When the key is off, and removed, the dinging stops. Also, the keyless lock works, whereas it does not if the key is in 1. Unlock works, but lock does not. Behaves normally when key is off, locks and unlocks.

My ignition key is definitely a decade old, so I need to test and see if it works in the gate/glovebox to see what, if anything, was replaced.

JB40, what did you do to fix this issue? I'm having the same problem with my 05 V8 limited and i think its draining the battery. Any further insight would be appreciated.
