Though I joined this forum when I bought my first 2002 4Runner in 2007, I haven't been on here since then. I totaled (my fault) my 2002 Sport Edition which just passed the 200,00 miles mark and still was going strong as ever....I am sure I could have gotten another 100,00 miles without much trouble. That was my second Toyota that went over 200,000 miles. The 2002 was the most trouble-free vehicle I ever owned. Before the 2002 4Runner, I had a 1998 Tacoma that made it to 183,000 before it was totaled (not my fault).
I came back on here to do some research on the 4th Gen models and learned a lot. So, I wanted to post that I bought a 2005 Sport Edition 4WD V8. After living with the mighty, but SLOW 3.4 V6, I decided I wanted the V8. I bought it with 132,000 miles on it. I am hoping this one will last as long as my old one (and many more miles). I'm not as confident in Toyota's newer models in terms of durability and reliability, but they are still the best out there.
After driving it for the past two days, I really am enjoying the extra power from the V8. Where, the 3.4 would have to downshift to go up a long hill, the 4.7 just keeps going in fifth gear. The ride is better, too. I'm planning to put my Kenwood GPS/HD Radio/DVD HU that I installed in the 2002 in my new ride (but from what I've read here, it's quite a project to do with the JBL system which I have). But, the JBL sound system is a definite improvement over the stock one in the 2002. There are things that I didn't like as well though. The full-time 4WD. And, call me crazy, but I want my power antenna back! And why, oh why do I still have to pay every 90,000 miles to have a timing belt changed? But, overall, I'm quite satisfied with my upgrade. (Sort of makes the accident worth it).
So, sorry to rant on, but I wanted to say thanks to all the posts on here to help me out whenever I need to know something about 4Runners!!
