2006 SR5 V8 4X4 Transmission Fluid?

Is there ANY way for me to check my transmission fluid level and/or condition on my '06? I read about the '04 having the sealed Xmission. . is mine sealed too? I swear i hunted all over the engine bay looking for a dipstick.

If you have a dipstick for the tranny it should be on the passenger side of the engine bay and have red/brown handle on it. If not, then you probally have a sealed one. You might look under the runner and see if there is a fill hole like on a transfer case or those old lawnmowers that don't have dipsticks.

The 5-speed trans has been sealed since 04 or 05.

I tow. . and I am going to want to replace that fluid at some point. . anyone crawl under there and flush it? Guess I could just do it from the tranny cooler, but would rather have a dipstick. . is there a way to install one?

If attention is needed there is an idiot light that will tell. With synthetic fluid you should be good for many years, maybe the life of the vehicle.

So did Toyota fill the Tranny with synthetic from the factory? Because it would make me feel MUCH better knowing there was synthetic tranny fluid in there. I guess I'm just paranoid because I had to dump my last car cause the tranny went to crap.

My understanding is that all sealed transmissions on the 4runners (no dip stick) have synthetic fluid.

Sweet, that makes me feel a little better. Would still PREFER to be able to put some Amsoil syn. tranny fluid in it. . but this will work for now.

Amsoil Universal ATF is not compatible with Toyota's "WS" (World Standard) transmission fluid applications.

I believe if you go to Amsoil's website and punch in an '06 4Runner, you will find that they will not recommend their Universal ATF for this application.

Amsoil's Universal ATF was specified as a replacement in earlier 4th Gen 4Runners that used Toyota Type T-IV ATF, but not the WS.

The WS is supposed to be top-shelf stuff, and I would go out of my way to stick with it for a new '06.

I believe Amsoil makes top-quality products, and maybe they will do some research and eventually determine that their ATF is WS compatible.

I don't have an idiot light on my dash. I feel like, either you learn how to check it yourself or pay somebody to do it. I learned. It's not hard, just set aside the time and do it. (This is after warranfy). In my opinion use the fluid your owners manual says to use. I use Toyota genuine ATF WS. just i figure they know what they are talking about. My 4Runner runs great. Thank god! Lol just a girl trying to take Care of my own stuff. Good luck!
