2007 FJ Cruiser Sweet or Swoot?

For 2 years, I've been watching all the press and photo previews and I was really excited about the release of the FJ. Last month, I actually saw some on the lot and found it to be kind of gimmiky looking. To me, it's 2007's version of what the the PT Cruiser, Mini-Cooper and the Xb was in their release years. I'm sure the FJ will be this years featured auto in some movie later this year.

Maybe one of the design engineers had one of those really bad overlapping teeth that he couldn't afford to have extracted. Sort of like "The Big Book Of British Smiles" on The Simpsons!

When shopping for my T4R I drove one cuz my mom and GF wanted me to. The ladies seem to like it, but I didn't much. Visibility is poor, interior is a bit cramped, and versitility for what I want to do (fishing, camping, hunting) is lacking.
It is nice to drive, although on road it doesn't handle as well as the T4R. One thing I wanted on my T4R was the six-speed manny, that was my favorite part of the FJ I drove.
Overall I didn't buy it becuase I'm not: :whipping2

And I agree with the other people who have mentioned that it is doesn't look anything like other cars on the road. Thank god for that.

It's blue because it fit the whole retro thing since the originals came in that color and with white roofs. I don't mind it but it's not me but it's good for Toyota and it's a real off roader with a manny and rear diff lock which was discontinued in the Runners in '01.

If you take reliability out of the equation, the new '07 Jeep Rubicon will eat the FJ Cruiser for lunch in off-roading.

Does Thai still agree with this? I've seen very impressive responses on the FJ offroading. But I havent heard much about the Rubicon.

Yes. A short-wheelbase 2007 Jeep Rubicon is IMHO the best stock off-roader in the world...bar none. Now, you can argue that the Rubicon may not last till 100K miles without mechanical issues and it's not so good on-road, but as a pure off-roader, the 2007 Rubicon SWB is hard to beat, esp. now that Hummer does not make the H1 anymore.

It is pretty hard to beat a vehicle with these specs:
- greater than 40 degrees of approach and departure angles
- Lockers front & rear
- Strong Dana 44-hybrid axles...stronger than your average Dana 44 axle
- RTI (ramp travel index) > 800...a 4th gen 4runner RTI is around 420...the Rubicon's suspension flex is almost double that!!
- 4:1 transfer case...leading to a crawl ratio of 73:1, which is over double that of 4runner and my G500!!
- stock 32" BFG Mud-terrains
- tons of aftermarket support..meaning that you can replace anything that you don't like on a Jeep at a reasonable price.

Now, as an all-around vehicle, i would prefer the FJ Cruiser. However, the '07 Rubicon is not that bad on the road either...i testdrove one, it was well-behaved on the road. And the '07 Jeep Wranglers have stability control, traction control, brake assist, and optional side airbags for safety features.

When these first came out, I didnt like them, Now they have grown on me, and I really like them. My friend just ordered the TRD one, we went and test drove last week, drove ok, not quite as nice as the 4runner though. Might not be as good as the 07 rubicon, but it will last longer and looks MUCH better, those new JKs are butt ugly i think. The TJs on the other hand are just beautiful

My 2007 FJ in Voodoo blue has 41000 miles and it runs like new. I love everything about it especially the interier. No muss no fuss. Just hose it out when it gets too dirty. My off road use is minor, but it always performs as I need it too. One sweet truck in my opinion. I hope Toyota continues the line.

I wave at all FJ owners as I go buy, just like a biker.

i test drove an FJ before i bought my 4R and oseriously felt like i was driving an armored truck.
I was giddy

but my 4R is more practical, and was a better choice for my purposes.
