back where i live all we had was Audi(100) and VW(passat, santana, bora) because the Chinese government have contracts with them, i would say 75% of cars in china was audi and vw some diesel some not, but those cars were some real good durable reliable cars

I do see your correct but it took a bit of searching to find that, i know vw changes the engines around while keeping the same displacement, i was pretty confident they did not on this motor. And you should reassess the way you talk to people, especially one who is a fellow 4runner and VW group enthusiast, i am not a know it all, i like to learn about volkswagens and i tinker on my fathers. You are so quick to make judgements, if you read what you wrote to me you would see that you act like a condesending d!ckwhad.

LOL.. if you would have said "I think they are basically the same motor" then I wouldn't have been so harsh with you. But the fact of the matter is that you came back with "its' the same motor..." like you were some kind of authority on the matter. You have a habit of doing that...and you have a reputation as a know-it-all on the forum. So I really didn't feel like arguing with you about Audi engines on a 4Runner forum. Like I said, go to the Audi forums and argue with them and we'll see how far you get. Anyway, it's good to see you at least researched a bit and now you realize that it's not the same motor.

My wife drives a 2010 a4 Avant 2.0T. The car drives great - nice handling, excellent AWD performance in the rain and it has a very comfortable, luxurious feel, in terms of ride and smoothness.

The interior is beautifully made, with expensive feeling materials and excellent finishing. That said, I've had a number of interior pieces break, including the buttons for the seat memory, visor retainer and door lock/unlock. This has been the biggest disappointment - I've never had a new car do this and it makes me question the build quality. We haven't had anything major happen, though, so that's good. Our friend has an A5 and the thing is constantly in the shop - with major engine problems.

Beautiful cars, but this will be our last Audi.

I think most people would agree that German cars in general aren't as reliable as Japanese cars. That said, I still love the feel of German cars (especially sporty ones) over any Japanese car...so I'm more than willing to deal with potential issues that may arise. Besides, all cars have problems and all cars come with warranties.

In the meantime, my A5 has been perfect so far. And being an active member on several Audi forums, I don't see many common complaints on these cars. That may not be the best way to judge the reliability of any car, but it certainly reassures me that Audi managed to get any potential "bugs" out of the car by now.

There's a huge VW plant in Shanghai. IIRC, the boxy Jettas that are used as cabs there have an emblem on them that they were built in the Shanghai plant.
