2010 Trail (w/KDSS) or 2008 V8 LTD

I tried to search for anyone that made a similar switch but couldn’t find it.

Current truck: 2008 V8 LTD with 190,000 miles. The previous owner ripped out the x-reas and put FJ springs in the front and rear. I’m not crazy about the ride so I was thinking about putting some money into the suspension.

Looking at: 2010 Trail w/KDSS and 90,000 miles


I’m really torn in this decision. I understand the basic differences but if anyone has anything to offer, it would be awesome.

I meant to mention that. I don’t tow anything big anymore. I actually despise towing unless it’s absolutely necessary.

I guess I’m always just apprehensive about buying the first year of a new generation.

I’m going to test drive it on Wednesday.

2009 was the first year they had the Trail Edition before they put it in/on the new 5th gen body. 2010 5th gen apprehensions will be forgotten after test drive. I would test drive and then make your decision, which I will bet will be the 2010!

To OP. I did somewhat similar switch from 2005 V8 to 2013 Trail with KDSS.
Just like you I used to tow a lot and not much now…. So V6 is fine for me. Many threads discussing the differences in 5ht vs. 4th generations as well as V8 vs. V6…. and obviously a lot of subjective opinions there…

At the time of the switch, I was financially secure to do it… and I am glad I did.

Loved the V8 in 4th gen and loved that truck… but there is something in the “trail” that puts a bigger smile on my face every time I drive it… and of course trail edition made from 2010 to 2013 are best looking 5th gen 4Runners (we all know it, just not everyone wants to admit it :jk:) :biggrin2:

Like others have said, test drive, test drive and test drive, only you can say for sure what model is better for you.

If I could do it over again I would get KDSS, early Trails look solid and yes 2010 to 2013 look the best, oh that's a beautiful color as well. 90k is low miles I have 128k on my 2012. Best of all you can plan on wrenching 100k service and get to know your new ride. If you are financially secure do it and wrench it!

i made nearly the exact same switch (lower to no miles on the respective vehicles, however). zero regrets; still love my Trail.

As far as the engine goes, I have a 4.7 in a first gen Tundra and a 2018 4R. I like the torque in the 4.7, but the 4.0 is plenty good for me. Comparing apples to oranges, the Tundra gets 16 and the 4R gets 21 for me. So that makes the 4.0 better for me. I don't tow either. I would go with the 2010 and the KDSS.

Lesson learned:

The sales manager yesterday told me the truck wasn’t ready yet and I couldn’t see it or test drive it until Wednesday (tomorrow). He was supposed to let me know the moment it was ready.

It’s no longer listed. So I sent him a text and he told me someone put a deposit on it. Oh well.

If it was someone on here, speak up. No hard feelings. I’m just curious.

I wasn’t really looking to switch vehicles but I stumbled across a good deal. Apparently it was a really good deal.
 
I highly doubt it was a T4R member. Sorry bud, more used models will appear sooner or later when the future reface comes out whenever that is

It’s all good man. I was only really bummed for a minute.

I know it had less miles, but it was only 2 years newer. And my 4runner has new brakes all the way around. And a brand new AC and timing belt service recently. So I might be better off.

That was a super-good deal.. it was probably a California dealer snatched it. I paid $10K more than that for mine two years ago (only had 54K on it though).
