Are we able to upgrade the 2013 cameras to have the "projected track"? I definitely don't NEED it but I'd really like to have it. I also much prefer the Entune menus on the 2014s but oh well.
Dear Mr. Rand,
Congratulations on the purchase of your 2013 4Runner!
We apologize for your dissatisfaction with the design of the navigation system and Entune in your 4Runner.
The navigation system programming functions cannot be accessed while the vehicle is in motion. This is a safety feature of the system to help prevent driver distraction and cannot be overridden. Future navigation updates will not change this function. (NOTE: Not what I was referring too but whatever)
We regret that we do not have information available on update changes made to Entune. Once an update is released, information will be available.
Although changes were made for model year 2014 vehicles, these Entune changes are not always retroactive to previous model years.
We have documented your email at our National Headquarters, where it is available for review by the appropriate department. If we can be of further assistance, please contact us.
Sincerely,
Kym Wilson

You would think, since they fixed a lot of the ridicoulous entune internets/nav nag screens too. I contacted Toyota and pretty much got the good ole politically correct brush off: They documented my email and the national headquarters! Hell yeah I feel important now!
Proof that car manufacturers have no idea how the software industry works, You induce bugs/fixes/minor updates/paid upgrades, you retroactively fix all supported versions of the software OR patch for a reasonable charge, which are generally releases from a minimum of 2 years prior or full point release if not longer. Guaranteed you can update the firmware from Entune models, the thing is small custom(or stripped) OS based computer. As long as their is a larger enough ROM to hold the firmware and a fast enough CPU/Ram.
Slightly annoyed about all this, I really thought/hoped they had their sh!t together. Oh well, the best I can hope for is someone equally annoyed and much smarter than myself rips and reverse engineers the firmware.
Seriously? What are you three? I actually researched it quite well. Nowhere is it stated in any literature the issues I described. You think that the dealer would let me pair my phone to a vehicle I do not own? right sure, maybe where you live...You drove the vehicle before you bought it... Right??? And messed with the features while on the test drive and in the lot? Right? And researched the features of the vehicle before hoping to the dealer to see what they were and what they did right??
Slightly annoyed. Hardly upset. Quite a bit of a difference. It's sounds as though you are upset for buying something you chose the way it is and has the features it has... Limited and ridiculous as you describe it.
And car manufacturers manufacture cars.... Not software. Kind of why we call them that and not software engineers.
Happy trolling to you too!Happy Hunting!!
You sure do jump to a lot of conclusions and all the while managing to sound like a condescending ass! Nice to meet you too :thumb:
Oh no complained about something, oh dear! Oh wait, I am a complete idiot that doesn't KWTF he's buying! Stupid me.

The car has a 36 month bumper to bumper, right? Why would software not be included if it fixes something that poses a safety issue?
When they release a newer version of the software that fixes all of the issues I describe yet fail to offer an upgrade, even at a reasonable charge to existing owners. You obviously think that is right.
BTW I fail to see where you arrived at "limited and ridiculous". I said ridiculous nag screens, I am not sure how that applies to the whole system or vehicle.
The fact of the matter is it is a safety issue anytime you take your eyes off the road to do something. The system in its current state asks you to confirm something, multiple times, the system is locked up until you confirm these dialogs, distracting you from the task of driving. Another fun fact, it would be one thing if it were quick about it, you could/would confirm these said dialogs before you start driving, sometimes it takes minutes or longer. But I forgot I deserve to be treated like an idiot because I discovered a problem.
I won't even comment on the stupidity of that statement.
Happy trolling to you too!
Now if your done, maybe we can get back on topic.

I really wish the guidelines were on the backup cam as well. Not that it would have affected my decision to purchase the vehicle, but I just assumed it had them, as nearly every backup cam I've seen in the past several years has them. I'm not holding out that Toyota will update it, but it would be great if they did!![]()
