2013 TE front end conversion to 2014+ possible?

Hello everyone, I am looking to purchase a 5th gen T4R. I am a huge Toyota fanboy. I use to own a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser Trail Teams in white. Love the contrast between black trim and wheels vs. white body. I want to do the TE front end conversions seen here:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/115610-pearl-white-trail-edition-conversion.html

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/116234-jangoforhires-build-pictures.html

But here is my dilemma, love the 2014+ interior, hate the 2014+ front end. My question is, if I purchase a 2014+ in white, will I be able to replace the front end with the front end from a 2010-2013 TE?

Thank you, please don't flame me for my first post :)

To each his own, I (and many others) loves the 2014+ front. Maybe many don't too.

To replace the front, go with an aftermarket bumper. Shrockworks, DO, etc.. all coming out with a 2014+ model.

Trying to get a factory new 10-13 TE front to replace, that's going to cost you a fortune.

Yes, cost of 2010-2013 front end parts only, $2,500.

Thanks for suggesting purchasing an aftermarket bumper, good idea, didn't really think about that and would save me some $$$!

I guess, my question is, is it even possible? Maybe I can work out a trade with someone with 2010-2013 TE front end that wants to convert to the newer style 2014+ front end.

I bet you could but you'd both have to paint since white only became available on the 2014+ TE.

Edit: I second the thought of purchasing an aftermarket bumper and if you want, paint/pc it white for a clean upgrade! Still would come out over $1k in savings over a conversion and paint.

Ah, I guess I just like the clean understated, factory look of the 2010-2013 TE. I do not like to modify my vehicles too much and therefore am more inclined to purchase the factory "modified" versions. I.E. the Trails Teams edition FJ cruiser or the TRD Pro 4runner and do very minor mods.

Ironic though, is that the mod I am proposing is a huge modification to achieve a non-modified look! Call me a crazy hyprocrite!

It'll grow on you if you give it time... ;) Most didn't like the redesign in 2010 either and many said they'd never own one (take a peak at old posts :becky:) and now some of those same guys are on their 2nd and 3rd 5th gen. I wasn't a fan of the 2014 front end either but now think it's a better fit for this gen 4Runner. Change it, and when you sell it you'll be dinged because some will think it's an "older" 4Runner... I'd go a little more unique if you want a change and go aftermarket for the money it'll take.

have you seen the 14+ in person or just pictures? I loathed it until I saw one in person.... now I own one and love it

My buddy has a 14+ SR5, it's not a TE but it looks just so...in your face. Another friend has a14+ limited, looks better but I want more off road capability.

I was one that loved the 10 redesign! The day I saw the 2010, I wanted a TE. It's not until 5 years later, I can finally afford one!

Excellent point about resale value. I think that factor alone has just crushed my dreams of doing a reverse conversion, even though I plan to run this thing into the ground, things inevitably change. :(

Fixed that for you :D

I saw one and immediately ran out and bought one of the last 13's on the lot. Still happy I did. The thing looks like Domo-Kun to me. I also thought gen1's look better than gen2's and gen3's way better than gen4's, I suspect I will like gen7's better than 5.5/6's. To each their own though :)

I do like he interior changes too, I have seen a few that look okay, mostly ones that have done a winch bumper.

OP you should be able to find a rear end total nowadays and get some OEM parts for much cheaper.

Lol, sounds like something I would do if I was in the market in 2013.

Yeah I could look for salvage, but I think that would be more effort and luck required than it's worth.

So it looks like I need to figure out a way to mask the butterface.

14+ and an after market bumper seems to be the smart choice here.

J random reminds me of the old YJ owners when the TJ came out and especially when the JK came out. Most because they couldn't afford a new one but some caved in after a while. I like all 10-15 models. 10-13 nice and more cute ute and the 14-15 is just tough kinda FJ looking. Of course all my opinion

yotaflame well hope you find what you're looking for. You can always go Shrockworks, Demello, 4X4 Labs, I think BudBuilt too for a front bumper. There are more and more coming up.

I know the "new" look is all about personal pref but this just doesn't say tough to me :D and I will leave it at that...

To be honest, at first I did not like the new gen FJ cruiser styling at all when it first came out, but when the Trail teams edition was released and I saw it in person, I was sold. Maybe I need to give it some time? Hopefully...?

I like mine cute and cuddly.

Hello and welcome
Not sure if you were thinking about buying a 13 or not but go for the 14 and up it is so much nicer overall. I just went from a 13 to 15 and I really like the difference.getting rid of that stupid fender antenna alone is worth it. You'll totally get used to the front end and you never see it when you're driving and you enjoy the interior and all the other numerous upgrades every minute you drive it. My observations on the controversial front end are at first when I had my 13 and 15 parked next to each other I have to admit I really liked the 13 look. It's so weird because now the 13 is starting to look dated to me and I'm really liking the refresh front and when I see them on the roads I like the new ones much more.

Yes, thank you. I agree with you about getting a 14+ over the 10-13. I will not compromise the interior creature comforts for the exterior looks. The 10-13 to me looks more rugged and truck like. The 14+ looks more, mainstream? Anyway I'm already set on a 14+ just looking at options on changing the exterior. I'm sure once I actually purchase one I will realize I never had the $$ to mod it anyway and will be forced to love it as it is or go into debt if I don't. Money talks for me.

Guess what guys? I am the biggest hypocrite! I just picked up a 2014 TEP and the overal look is really growing on me. I guess I was too focused on looking at the front bumper by itself but it's really the overall look of the truck that you have to consider. Doesn't look dated and as classic as the 10-13, but the angry transformer face does look more modern, and mean!

Flame away fellas!

I hated the front-end redesign at first too, but now I really like it. I actually like it better than my 2011 nose!

Also, the 2010-2013 4runner TRAIL had the black fender flares.

The 2014+ 4runner TRAIL has body-fab color-matched fender bubbles.

For this reason, you cannot cross-swap bumpers without having to replace quarter panels and rear bumper all around.

Estimated cost about $8,000.
