After much wait and anticipation, this morning I traded-in my '96 RAV...
for this...
Obviously quite the difference in ride.
Actually, the RAV wasn't my daily driver until about two weeks ago when I sold my Subaru WRX. I bought the RAV a few years back as a camping vehicle that I wouldn't mind being scratched and banged up. It performed surprisingly well off pavement. The rollerskate wheelbase made it very maneuverable. Alas, due to a family addition on the way, I decided to upsize and consolidate my daily and recreational vehicles.
I'll miss the sporty feel of the WRX, but I love the solid, smooth ride of the 4Runner. After driving nothing but lightweight, four cylinder vehicles for 25 years, this will be an adjustment.
JRWARD's 2014 Stormtrooper build is exactly what I've had in mind for a couple of months now. He just beat me to it...
Next week, new wheels and tires. Level it out soon after. I'll vinyl the silver bumper trim too. I'll have to consider the badge white-out that he did.
One thing about the Subaru - I never got so much response from other drivers (of the same make/model) as I did with the WRX. It definitely felt like I was part of "the club". I rarely went a month without a nod, wave, or some acknowledgement from another WRX driver. I hope to experience that with other 4Runner drivers, but not sure it will be the same.

just an FYI for new owners who previously owned a low or lower slung vehicle. Make sure to measure the clearance of your garage motor mechanism , specially the black-colored lever arm that pulls the garage door up and down. Why?
my garage door lever arm was protuding an extra 6 inches and even though I measured it to be 73 inches above ground(enough to clear the SR5 4runner based on the toyota website sr5 height specs)...when I parked it for the first time and closed the garage door, everything seemed ok, but just to be sure, I stood on a stool, and to my horror the garage door lever arm just missed the SR5's sharfin antenna by an inch to the left -it would have dented or gouged my SR5's roof. Anyway, its ok now -I sawed off 6 inches from the lever arm using a $5 dollar hacksaw from home depot - took about 45 minutes with 4 stops to cool down the hacksaw blade(with a wet paper towel) and to rest my arm.

funny but not funny at the same time. glad you didn't get any unexpected mods.
funny part, up here where I live, most doors are installed taller than normal due to the abundance of 4x4 vehicles which tend to sit higher than most cars.
5 door panels each 19 inches tall = 95 inch opening. even with the warden's Tacoma have about 20 inches before I even get to the top of the door.
usually the secondary door is even taller than the main door for campers, rv's, etc up here.
for new owners, if you also bought the wheel locks, the 'key' can be found attached like a ring to the jack handle which is in the rear storage compartment on the left side when facing the back door. the 'key' is attached to the jack handle with a plastic tie whose trailing end is long enough that it interferes whenever you try to insert the key into the end of the jack handle. Therefore, make sure to trim or cut the trailing tail of the plastic tie so you can attach the 'key' to the wheek lock whenever you need to change tires. Reason I mention is because, if you dont have a knife or scissor handy when get a flat, you may have to gnaw on the plastic tie unless you have Thor fingers. ...........ok, i made a mistake, you can actually wiggle the plastic tie out, just pull it out firmly, it will pop-out of the 'key'.
Buy also those cheap $16 dollar cigarette lighter tire inflator which are ok for the smaller tire punctures. It has bailed me out so many times - this way, you dont have to change tires everytime you get semi-flat tire.
if your 4runner came with a back-up camera, its that little black 'thing' immediately to the left of the back door handle(located in the center) when you are facing it. I thought at first this black thing was something i had to press first to open the back door. Luckily I didn't forcefully press it or I might have wrecked it... gotta keep reading the manual.

Wow! Nice truck man. It looks amazing at night, makes me want to drive one of those sucker!. I've never been a huge fans of the 5th gens before but the new trails are growing on me.Picked up my white TE premium

Your SR5 really reminds me of a 3rd gen. Looks great.

Thanks guys! This truck does have a certain old school charm, but with the convenience of modern amenities in the cabin. The Premium interior especially is super nice - love the Sand Beige SofTex against black exterior. This thing oozes class, yet still retains a down-to-Earth, honest truck personality. Can you tell I love it, lol?
Tires are stock size (265/70/17). I'm told you can go as wide as 275, but I didn't want to spend the extra money & gain the extra weight. Maybe next time, though. Would probably look even better a little wider.
