2014 4runners SR5 and Trail, haven't seen any on the streets

I don't mean to start something here, but every time I see a new limited edition I expect to see a pimp behind the wheel. Ok, I understand the chrome and stuff but 20" wheels? I mean, who off roads with 20's?

We bought a '14 Trail model because it looked like it could go somewhere. It's for my wife and she liked the false scoop on the hood. To be fair, she saw one and said that's what she wanted. I had to find the right color and leather interior. Now, I have a '99 Jeep Cherokee that's been modded just a bit. Tires, lockers, and suspension. I think the 4runner could play with my Jeep but I wouldn't want to thrash it into some places we go back in the mountains. It just looks too nice.

Maybe someday the wife will get another car and I'll get the 4Runner. Meantime, about all the wheeling it will do is up the gravel driveway. :shocked:

About the waving thing - I only wave if the 4Runner is modded (same in my Land Cruiser). If it's modded then I know he's 'one of us'. If it's stock, chances are to them it's "just a car". Waving at somebody in a bone-stock rig would make me feel like weird creeper

I've seen maybe twenty '14's around the north Dallas area, but no TE's. They're too rare around here - I've only seen two 5th gen TE's all together. We're covered up with LE's and SR5's around here. I never get a second look from them. They probably don't even recognize my rig as a 4Runner.

^^^Same in San Antonio. I see a Trail Edition about once every other month if that, and just like you I never even get a second glance from other T4R drivers. Surprisingly, I never even get a second look from the occasional modded FJ Cruiser I see. Don't those drivers know our vehicles are practically brothers?

I've seen every color except blue here in San Diego. Saw a sharp looking white SR5 on the way to the gym this evening, a gray trail 2 days ago on the freeway, and a black SR5 yesterday. I haven't seen many limiteds or trails though, mostly SR5's.

Only two TE's to look at in STL when I began my search. Ended up across the Mississippi in Illinois where I found two more to choose from. Both premium packages. So I bought the grey. I was looking for almost 2 months before I bought.

Keep an eye out for me. I live in St Charles and work in the city. Do not see many 5th Gens. I have seen 3 14s so far. A ltd on 270, a black TE by Mid Rivers Mall and a white TE by work near the AB Brewery.

LOL yeah I know what your saying. I only wave if people are basically staring or point the vehicle out. Otherwise I would be waving at A LOT of middle aged women.....creeper +1. :frisky:

I owned a Jeep TJ and I can tell you the whole "Jeep Wave" thing got annoying as hell.

I went from: op2: to :hello: to :wave: to to :hand: to :doh: to :flipoff: to to :faint2: All in a couple of months.

FJC owners are a strange breed. Seems like they think they're too cool to be a Toyota and prefer to be considered a Heep. 99% of FJCs on the road are in the same bucket as most of the JKs in my area; and that is built to look pretty at Starbucks and the mall. In a way, kinda like my 2014

Stock Limited here and I give the nod to a runner when I see them go by. Gave and got the nod from a 2014 LTD the other day. Then waved to a modded TE and got nothing, so it goes both ways.

Have not seen any 14's here in CT. Don't see many 5th Gens in general here in CT which actually makes me feel more exclusive. I love seing all the GMC Yukon owners and JGC owners stare at my trck.

I live in a county of about 11,000. There are at least three 2014 TE's, a couple SR5s, one limited, about 7-8 of the 2010-13 style (mostly SR5s, a couple TEs), about a handful of the 4th gens (mostly SR5s, a couple limiteds, no sports), and a bunch of the 3rd and 2nd gens. A couple first gens cruising around too. None of the 4th and 5th gens are modded. A few of the 3rd and 2nd gens are modded but I don't think they are on here and I never seem to meet up with anyone of them. I did meet some kid driving a nice 3rd gen one day but it was his dad's and he (the kid driving it) didn't like driving it because it was slow and the stereo didn't have any bass. I ended the conversation right there.

Hopefully, I'll be driving a new TE in a couple months too.

I saw my first 2014 Trail in the wild today, a red 2014 trail. I waved, because it was a trail. But as I passed I saw it was a lady driving, and not even a glance. :gun4:

Glad to hear your search was fruitful - where'd you end up getting it?

I ended up getting it from Camelback. Super close to my house and they could get me the MagGrey TE. Dealt with a pretty good guy there too. Nice to have people that know what the hell they're selling.

When I was driving my Subaru WRX, I constantly got waves or nods of approval from other Subaru (Impreza) drivers. It definitely felt like being part of an unofficial club. Not so much with the 4Runner. When I finally saw another 2014 on the road, it was obvious the middle-aged woman driving wasn't interested in any friendly exchange. Still waiting to cross paths with another 2014 TE owner.

Overall, here in Phoenix, I see plenty of earlier 5th gens. Unfortunately most of them are Limiteds being driven by some princess on her way to the mall.

I just came out of an STi! I was wondering the same on the wave thing. I'm always the idiot that will go out of my way to wave or speed up/slow down to have a (hopefully) friendly wave or nod.

Saw a white 2014 Trail Edition driving down Camelback Road yesterday afternoon in Phoenix while riding my bike home from work, didn't think a wave was appropriate.

Minimal number of 2014s on the road out here in western Colorado. Lots of Limiteds on dealer lots, not so many SR5s, and NO Trail Editions. Salesperson said:"We don't see many Trails." They were happy to bring one over from Denver for us.

I looked in a 500 miles radius from Philladelphia Pa and only found 3 Trail Editions. I guess 2 now that I bought mine
