2014+ T4R Tri-LED Projector / Sequential Headlights

Well I did have to put them on blast but I did promise that I would retract my original statement if they proved they did their part.

They are aware of this thread. You might want to push them again for the forum discount.

Obviously I’m not terribly happy on how they handled it initially either. Wish I didn’t have to put them on blast in the first place.

I emailed them and asked if the forum members were all lying about getting the discount, lol

Plus, they're totally throwing dot_tom under the bus after he went to bat for them promoting these and promised the discount would work specifically for the headlights.

I mean, whatever. If they're as good as I hope I'm still going to keep them, but I won't do business with them again after their guy flat out lied to me about it

It's a mess. To throw me under the bus, when I have text that say the discounts would be honored, when I was told the discount would be good to give out. I was even kind enough to ask for a PM to get the discount so I could track every code I gave out in the event someone shared it without reaching out to me.

Either way, guys, I was given these headlights to keep after they used my rig for their video. That was super nice of them. Everything else, guess that's why we get things in writing.

That being said, for them to try and paint me in a negative light and not honor something.... that's shitty. Hopefully everyone knows I have no desire to try and BS someone or lie about a code that I was told would work. I get nothing out of this. They already gave me the headlights. Why would I take time out of my day to try and help someone with a code that doesn't work?

No need to carry on. I will no longer be posting in this thread or supporting any other companies after this experience. Hope everyone enjoys their headlights and I am happy that I was able to provide some cool photos and some feedback for everyone.

Also, I don't care if I got these for free. I hear a company talk poorly about me from members, I'm done. Back to stock.

This may go down in history as one of the fastest ways to screw up your reputation - both the vendor and the manufacturer.

If you tell someone to post a discount code and then realize that you got in over your head, then you don't kill the messenger, you make an honest post saying "We hadn't anticipated such a demand and we apologize that we can no longer honor the discount code after today" or something along those lines.

Sticking your head in the sand and hoping the problem goes away just pisses everyone off.

Just so we're clear, I wasn't saying dot_tom lied to me. Sorry if that was ambiguous. I know he was just being cool and trying to promote a product he liked. The lie was in the email from XD about not giving ANY discounts on the headlight pre-orders when there are several members here who posted that they got them.

Thanks, I wasn't being clear either. I wasn't directing my comment to you. I was quoting your post to bring context to my frustration.

Personally I don't think XD tried to trick any of us and especially saying they through dot tom under the bus... If it happened I didn't see the connection. They let him drive 5k miles to display and advertise and then gave him the damn lights. How cool is that! Congrats Dot Tom!
My .02 cents. I've read in many places even other vehicle forums that XD customer support went to crap after the merger. If I had to guess I would say management didn't tell the working bees what was going on with the forum code, miscomunication happens in most all companies all the time!
Even if these illegal (lol) headlights give me grief I will still buy from them or TRS. I would rather buy a reputable brand lighting company than cheap back isle Walmart or eBay shit.
Kudos to XD, they sold 50 runner lights and 50 tundra in less than a day, round it out they sold $100K plus in sales, how cool is that, its plain and simple good business & I wish I could do the same... color me ****ing blue with envy :)

Is this why you're selling your free headlights on FB?

The reading comprehension of seme people clearly needs improvement. The vendor clearly threw a poster under the bus for a bit more profit.

Make no mistake, these (and all other aftermarket headlighting units) are illegal and to compliment a company for selling a huge quantity of illegal products is like patting a drug dealer on the back and saying "great job, keep it up!"

I’m not selling them on FB. Clearly too many people have a problem with what I do with my parts. I’m no longer running these for my own reasons and no they are not for sale. Thanks

We’ve been following the thread and admittedly are having a hard time understanding where we went wrong, but definitely want to clear the air with you guys.

First, we sincerely appreciate Tom’s help with this product. He came out to our shop in Atlanta, was willing to put a set of late prototypes through their paces on his trip out to Moab, and shared tons of awesome pictures of his 4Runner out there rocking the headlights. Before he took off, we produced a video explaining how others attending the FJ Summit could earn a discount. See Tom & his truck out west, snap a pic, tag us, and we’ll get you connected with the discount (which could be used on these lights or any other upgrades from XD)

YouTube

If for any reason our intentions here were unclear to either Tom or any of the other guys here who ordered, we genuinely do apologize - but want you guys (especially Tom) to know that that really wasn’t the plan. We simply wanted to have some fun spreading the word with Tom when he hit the road from Atlanta to Moab and thought this was a creative way to do it.

For anybody who ordered (like MrBlah) and had their doubts, we processed a refund for the difference.

To clarify for those who are concerned about the DOT compliance issue: These headlights will qualify and pass all DOT, SAE, and FVMSS108 guidelines. Like all other complete LED headlights from Morimoto, the optics, the beam pattern and its distribution of light, the amount of light, the intensity of the parking light, turn signals, and their position relative to the low & high beams have all been carefully engineered. The documentation simply hasn’t been released from the test lab yet- but once it does it will become publicly available just like the other models. Linking a couple others for reference, such as the Corvette or F150 lights. It is in fact worth noting however that the side marker reflectors in the production lights ship with smoked covers rather than amber due to customer preference - but the LED’s within still illuminate amber.

Xenon Depot appreciates the love from the 4Runner community and that’s why we were given first dibs on the XB headlight launch. We especially appreciate the support of everybody who pre-ordered with us, Dot_Tom’s help getting the word out, and will stay on top of this thread to field any questions or concerns that happen to pop up. We shipped all pre-orders already (almost a week earlier than expected too!) so now we’re looking forward to everybody’s install pics!

Thanks guys!

So the bottom line of the attachments is that the lighting units do not comply with FMVSS 108. Smoke and mirrors don't change those facts.

Wait what. Are we getting production smoked colors instead of Amber?

Thank you for chiming in and clearing the air as I have enjoyed providing photos from my trip and positive reviews with my personal experience with the headlights performance and look.

The color of the plastic for the reflector is the only difference, but both illuminate amber - which we openly pointed that out in our response. Most importantly: Providing proper visibility for the driver, signaling clearly to others (a la the turn signals) and eliminating glare for oncoming traffic are paramount (and by far the most difficult) factors to qualify a complete assembly for - and since these will pass there, we believe the claim is justified.

Thanks again for the help Tom!

Found these while browsing IG. According to DRZ in the comments section, price is planned to be "under $800". No idea about quality though.

I, and the Federal government beg to disagree. There are specific requirements that need to be met under FMVSS 108 and they ALL need to be met in order to be compliant. You cannot pick and choose what part of the reg you want to be in compliance with and say "we meet a tiny portion of the reg so we're good".

That would be tantamount to going to the doctor with a broken finger and a hangnail. The doc fixes your hangnail and send you away.

I'd be happy to put you in touch with the lawyers at NHTSA and they'll clear it up for you. If you like we can take this offline. PM me if you like.
