2014+ T4R Tri-LED Projector / Sequential Headlights

Here's the light output of the Morimoto XB LED headlight assemblies. This was taken last night at 10:30p on the 5 freeway with barely any traffic and no overhead street lamps. Don't know what you guys are expecting, but for LED headlights, this light output is super impressive. If you need more light output than this, maybe some guys should see an optometrist.

Plenty of light for me and comparable to my last three vehicles with stock LED 5700K from the factory. When pointed correctly, they provide plenty of output.

People need to also know that LEDs operate differently than HIDs. HIDs cast a wider output vs LEDs with LEDs even from the factory having strict cutoffs.

(Sorry in advance for the blurred image, I was driving at 80mph and felt like snapping a picture when I noticed how much output there was on a dark freeway. Felt cute, might delete later...)

It lights up the area directly in front of the car (weighed to the left) nicely. Since that area is so brightly lit, your brain has to fight to look at the blob of light farther down the road.

Update on the XD / Morimoto saga from me:

After several of the posts here, XD responded to my emails and overnighted a replacement set of headlights to me for my 2020. I thought that was a nice touch. It'll be probably a week before I can get them installed however.

I connected with Morimoto via phone last week for a warranty claim on my wife's headlights for her 2019. Took some back and forth but they processed the warranty claim today. Oddly, I received an email from XD saying they were handling the claim order from Morimoto.

I'm not really sure what to say about that, the names of the people handling the tech support responses via email were the same for both Morimoto and XD - so maybe XD is really just handling everything and Morimoto doesn't get involved other than manufacturing the product?

Anyway - hoping whatever the failure was has been fixed and I don't have the LEDs out again on the new sets. I think it's pretty clearly a related issue with 4 of 4 lights in my household having failed LEDs in the same spot.

Youtube has lots of videos. basic is, find a flat level area, pull up to the wall, mark the height of the light and distance between the 2, mark wall with tape. Back up 25' then besure your side to side is set, then beam should be just below the tape marker. If your anal like me, not all flat ground is level @ 25' so I used a laser level to validate elevations

My DRL strip is dimming when I press on my brakes firmly. Is anyone else experiencing this? It's subtle, but can be seen in the reflection of my door in my garage. Happens when the DRL is at full and half brightness. Can someone check to see if theirs does it as well? All of my connections are fine. It's almost like a very fast flicker but looks like a fast dimming when I see the reflection.

A fast way of checking for this is to turn on the DRL in your garage while the garage lights are out. The DRL puts out an obnoxious amount of light, so changes in brightness are pretty easy to see. Press on the brakes firmly several times and check for a "flicker/dimming" from the DRL light against a wall.

At least I don't have any burned out LEDs.

For anyone who has an aftermarket steel bumper that has the straight line cut (like CBI), are you guys able to remove the headlight without removing the whole bumper? I'm hoping i can remove that upper bumper valence that remains and sneak a wrench in there.

I have a 3 hoop bumper and I was able to move the upper grill forward enough to remove the light housing with the bumper on.

I hadn't looked closely at my wife's lights, both her passenger and driver's side have the LEDs out at the same place the LED is flickering in mine. That's 3 out of 4 headlights in our household - appears to be a clear manufacturer issue.

I'm assuming the one of mine that is flickering will die shortly too - we've had her lights in since November, mine since early January.

Just had the same LED go out in my drivers side headlight. Seems like this may be a design flaw, as several have had the same LED go out. I hope Xenon Depot will respond once I report it.

Just finished up getting my new headlight installed. Overall the return/replacement process has been pretty painless from the customer service side of things. I wouldn’t want to rip another headlight out anytime soon though. Xenon Depot responded to my request the next day, and had a new headlight out to me within a week or so. Just have to drop my old headlight off at UPS now.

No deposit was needed on my end (like a core charge), and a label was provided for printing. All in all, this went much smoother than expected. The replacement headlight appeared to be new as well... although it could have been a renewed light. I saw no signs of previous use.

It’s crazy how much some of their stuff is. I was looking at a set of their taillights, because you can actually get them blacked out (the depos aren’t) but the damn things are near $1000. That’s insane

I didn’t know they also sold taillights, I quite like the OEM assemblies. They are expensive but the difference in light output and where it puts that light is amazing. Mine have the 5.0 D2S projectors, which require some modification to the radiator support but it’s worth it. I’ve had them through rain, snow, and multiple drive through car washes and no signs of leaking yet.

It should do just that when you have the stalk set to DRL. Did you use the included DRL harness? Otherwise, it won’t turn on until the “parking light” setting on the stalk is selected.

I think you need the rig powered on and in drive for the DLR to come on

Thanks for the reply. I think I installed the DRL harness correctly into the fuse box. If not, the DRL would not function, right?

I have the stalk set at DRL on. When I start the engine, I would assume the DRL would be on, but it doesn't. It only goes on at the second click up, which activates the amber parking light as well.

Am I doing something wrong?
