2015 4runner trail looking to buy

I was wondering what a person should look for when purchasing a 2015 4runner trail. They have it advertised as a pro and at $28000. I am debating between this and a 2006 4runner sport. I am not sure if the extra money is worth it or not. This one has 96000 miles the 2006 has 143000 miles, both I believe are over priced. 50k in mileage difference isn't really much. My primary goal is as a back up vehicle. for winter driving and trips to the mountains or other trips. I have learned a lot about the 2006 I am just trying to see if the 2015 is worth the extra money or not and what I should look at price for it. The 2015 has the KD Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) I am not sure if it is worth more or more of a hassle???

A couple things - the 2015 is over priced, I won't comment on the other as I have limited experience with 4th gen 4runners. Its also not a Pro its a Trail Edition (not premium) essentially what they now call the Offroad Trim I believe.

I picked up a 2015 Trail Edition Premium with KDSS for 25k + Sales Tax private party with 80k on it and I didn't think I got that great of a a deal but it was flawless.

If its not a daily driver, not sure its worth the extra cash for a 5th gen

Keep looking there’s a lot better deals out there. don’t settle and don’t get desperate and do you want a fourth GEN or a fifth GEN they’re totally different animals figure out what you really want

I don't plan on settling, I am trying to do my research. What are the major differences between the gen4 and gen5? My current main goal is to use as a back up vehicle during the winter if the roads are crappy, and as an alternate vehicle for trips to the mountains, fishing, hiking, hunting etc. One other possible reason is another vehicle to take out of state trips with to visit family, especially in when their is chances of crappy roads.

That 2015 is WAY overpriced. I just picked up my 2017 ORP as a CPO, 45k, for about $2k more...

The 2006 I'm not thinking that price is too bad. Maybe a grand too high, but that's dealer pricing. Looks really clean, has better tires. Doesn't look like there's too much to do to it.

5th gen drives bigger, if that makes sense. I had a 4th gen and the 5th is roomier, but also takes up a tad more space in the garage.

IMO the biggest difference between the two is the 4wd system. The 4th gens had the "full-time" option that left the center diff open. You could drive around on dry pavement with that on. The 5th gens are plenty capable, but that's one thing I wasn't thrilled that they did away with.

Two big things would be:
1. Make sure that 4wd system is fully functioning. Check the center diff lock and 4Lo. That's a $2500+ fix if something's wonky there. I made that mistake when I bought mine.
2. Double check and make sure the XREAS suspension isn't leaking. Another big ticket item.

If this is a backup vehicle, I'd definitely lean toward the 2006. Best 4th gen color by far as well.
