2015 TRD Pro no test drive

Since I'm still deciding on which 4runner to get, I called Koons Tysons Toyota (located in northern VA) yesterday to test drive a TRD pro they have in stock. The salesman said to come by and test drive it. I drove 40 minutes to get to the dealership and when I got there the salesman I spoke to said in order for me to test drive it I have to buy it. I was livid at this point and stormed out, called the sales manager there right away and complained. Told him the sales tactic is pretty low class. I guess I will be taking my money some place else.

They should have told you that before luring you to go there.

More than a few of us bought/ordered our 4Runner without going thru the normal "test drive" monkey show.

TRD Pro is hard to come by, and people are willing to pay premium for them; so, they probably want to keep it as close to 0 miles as possible. (They might already have it spoken for, and just waiting for the guy to come in to pick it up)

My dealer held mine there with ODO 1mile for me to go there to "test drive" and buy it.

i totally get it but yes, should have told me over the phone first so i don't waste almost an hour driving over there and driving back pissed. it's a no win for anyone involved.

Sad, but not surprised. In general dealers seem to offer test drives less and less, and they figure everyone wants a TRD pro, but cannot necessarily afford it.

That was a poor sales tactic. I am sure they would let you test drive a non-TRDP to get a general idea of how they handle.
I bought mine with one mile on the odometer, drove it home with two.

I hate koons Tyson's toyota. They are arrogant and slimy. They had a trail that I wanted, wouldn't work with me on a price even though another dealer was advertising a lower price. They gave me excuses and finally told me to go to the other dealer, because "there is no way that's the real price, it must be damaged or a demo".

Lol, I bought mine at Koons in Tysons, and I had the opposite experience; they basically begged me to drive my TEP right before I signed the papers. I did not want a test drive, I already test drove an sr5 before and really, how bad can the things be anyway as I was only concerned with legroom which does not need a test drive, but they said they did not want me to buy it before I bought it.

But yea, that is pretty bad they said you could test drive it, it would be different if they said no but there is an sr5 to drive, but to say you can drive the pro and then not let you is unsat.

I would post a bad review on Google, yelp, and Facebook. Bad press usually gets their attention and if nothing less it inconveniences them to take down your post. I've actually resolved a few issues this way with restaurants over charging me when complaining to the manager did not work.

Back before I had my 4th gen I was looking at trucks and SUV's. I did some homework online before I ever went out looking. I wanted to look at the Ford Raptors. Checked a few local dealerships to see if anyone had any in stock. I stopped by to check it out and they wouldn't even open the door let alone let me drive it. He said it was because it was a specialty vehicle and it was "too expensive to just let anyone drive it." I tipped my hat and left. The next day I got a call from the sales manager with the, noticed you stopped in, are there any questions I can answer blah blah blah.... I just so happened to be on my way to Mercedes from Land Rover and explained that I wasn't even allowed to sit in a truck let alone drive it. He offered to personally come meet me at home to drive it and I politely told him what he could do with his test drive.

I use to play the game and dress a up a little when I would go car shopping. Now its jogging pants and a t-shirt. I hate when dealerships judge someone right off the bat like that.

We do get judged by the way we look and that includes what we wear. Depends where we're going to be. Not so important for a walk in the park or a jog down the trail, but I'm kinda not to surprised of your experience if thats how you presented yourself. just sayin':behindsofa:

Here in California, people go into dealerships with t-shirts, surfer shorts and flip-flops, and pay cash to drive porsches away....... just say'in...

Agreed, although up here its the tradesman who have all the money right now. Show up in coveralls and rubber boots and you are definitely making six figures.

My brother in-law just bought a Tundra TRD Off Road from the same dealership in February. Test drive was fine (not the TRD-Pro). Negotiating prices was an absolute nightmare. They tend to negotiate less b/c of their significant turnover. They move a lot of corollas/camrys, no need to haggle with customers.

Just FYI from my experience, I dealt with several DC area dealers when I bought my '14 Trail. Koons and Darcars were awful - you could tell they were more interested in volume than establishing relationships.

In the end, Jim Coleman Toyota (Bethesda) and Jack Taylor Toyota (Alexandria) both had silver Trail's and I felt comfortable dealing with either dealer. Jim Coleman gave me the best deal, but I'd definitely recommend either one.

I know the dealer I bought my TRD Pro from was not doing test drives. They said people who are looking for the TRD Pro know what they want and some don't want test miles on there TRD Pro. I like the fact that my TRD Pro had 2 miles on it.

That's stupid. It's a $40k SUV not a Lamborghini.

Exactly what I was thinking! I had no issue test driving my Limited. If I'm not mistaking the Limited is as much or more than the TRD Pro. I had a family friend that went to a dealer to buy a vehicle and the salesperson didn't believe he was going to pay cash. He swiftly walked out the door and paid cash at the next closer dealer who treated him with respect. Oh yeah he did not dress like a million bucks but he was worth it. Not sure what is worse car salespeople or motorsports salespeople.
