2016 shopping. Trd vs trail

After being without my built 2008 4Runner for a couple years, I'm ready for another one. I've been out of the loop and I come back to find the trd pro in grey on the Toyota website. Looks perfect except there are none for sale on the Internet.

What's the scoop? Worth buying? Should I settle for a trail? What's the premium get you?

My 2008 v8 sport had icon suspension, shrockworks bumper and slides and 285 duratracs. I was hoping the trd would already be "done" so I don't have to buy wheels tires and a lift while it still has temp tags in it. Or will I be further ahead to do that to a trail?

After doing some more research, looks like the trail with kdss is better. Still has locker but better cornering. Still can't find a grey one for sale...

Get a trail. Premium if you want a sunroof and softex. Unless your planning a monster build, get KDSS if you can find it. Otherwise no big deal. Buy it. Enjoy it.

This is just my take on things I have read so far.

If you arent planning on touching anything - id go TRD
if you are planning on changing stuff and like the customization factor, etc then go trail

They haven't started shipping the grey ones yet. They will start showing up later in the model year.

I think for the 15's they released colors in stages. They may not be making them in the MGM yet.

Well you aren't exactly "settling" for anything if you choose a Trail. KDSS or not depends on how you plan to use you 4runner. If you're on the road more than 90% of the time, then its not a bad thing to have...however even if you are driving on the road most of the time, as long as you realize its a truck (and lifted if you plan to) then you don't really need KDSS either.
I'd say just test drive one if you can, and order one the way you want it...but I'd definitely choose a Trail and build it the way you want.

Here, let me help you. Get a 2016 Trail w/o KDSS like I did, save the money for your suspension. Done.

Might want to drive before you buy... Just saying. Many people are very disappointed with the responsiveness of the motor.. It's not like a 4th gen. Still a fantastic truck, just not a powerhouse of any sort.

All depends on what price point you're able to get a trail and trd for. I was able to find a trd for 2k more than a trail and in the color I wanted so it was a no brainer.

As a 3rd gen owner and impartial viewer of this internet pissing match

TRD Pro owners seem to get hated on simply because they can afford the Pro. Class Warfare - Poor people hating on those richer than them is a common thing in society. Is an iPhone better than a Samsung, no the samsung has better hardware everyone knows this, but Samsung users hate on iPhone users whose phone costs $150 more. Apple does better job with marketing and design.
The Trail Premium is better truck and better value than the Pro, the pro just has some tinsel and better marketing. Your Trail is a Samsung Galaxy and the Pro is an iPhone

Except for the non Pro owners who quietly take pride in the fact that they paid a slightly cheaper price for what actually is the top model (along with the Limited, depending on taste/usage)
