It looks like the retained the old cab. I actually do not mind how they have retained the size of the old one. They have gone against the trend of having to make a vehicle larger during a redesign. Unfortunately, they need to fire their exterior design staff ASAP. I suppose that finally including a fully boxed frame and giving a 6-speed manual that isn't an utter pile would make up for the styling.
I'm guessing that it will receive the updated 1GR. While it is a welcomed addition, it is about 5 years late. I would love to know what they are going to do for a 4-banger option. I don't believe the 2TR has received an update since 2005, making it a 10 year old powerplant at this point. They have a lot of nerve if they actually decide to use that engine without an update. Based on what Toyota has been doing lately, it is likely that it will be a lot of reused parts.
Let's hope the 2016 Tacoma isn't 2005's best midsize pickup.

I can see that the approach angle is gonna be very minivan like!Darn regulations!
They are not the only ones doing it. If it is anything like the Colorado/Canyon, it has been designed to be removed if need be.

That's a rather apples to orange comparison. If you don't like the big looks then why resort to a bigger truck?

Imo the front end looks out of proportion to rest of truck , from the nose back I like it , kinda like the 14-15 4r . sorry guys

Wow, I've been following daily on Tacomaworld since my new Ram 1500 has oil in the coolant and is currently in the shop (oh yeah, it pulls straight diesel exhaust in to the cab too - pre-DPF). Ctrl+Z the $50,000 piece of sheit while I'll miss 28mpg lifted and on larger tires and crazy towing ability...forever
So yeah... these pics are new to me, yet to check on TW to see what the buzz is. Not a complete redesign = no thanks, already had a 2012 Tacoma and it left too much to be desired. If they just did facelift version 2 (and a little extra) I'm sure they left a ton the same. Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't touch the crapola leaf springs too :brushteeth: Might just get a 2015 4runner :\
And yeah the approach angle is screwed by that front air deflector but that's so common vehicles these days trying to rake in all the fuel economy possible. I bet it sucks to take off, too... but would be absolutely necessary when on the trail.

Because if you have to have a big f*cking truck, have a big f*cking truck. I'd take a Tundra over the current or "new" Tacoma too. Nevermind the godawful styling, the current Tacoma is too small to be used like a real truck and too big for anything else.

Normally I would agree but when the price of a Tacoma encroaches that of a F-150 which has near double towing, capacity, more power and BETTER gas mileage, it becomes a more relevant comparison.
I wanted one for a while but then realized they are VERY overpriced and quite overrated. A double cab longbox Tacoma is a few inches shorter than a double cab shortbox F-250 so it's not really a small truck. It's a long truck that can't tow, haul or get good gas mileage. I can't understand why the resale is so ridiculous.

Coming from a line of small Toyota trucks till I traded my last taco for the runner, I've not really been a fan of how they keep making them larger and larger.
Though the size is the same as last this time, I'm also not a fan of the "Big American Styling". It's a sport truck and really shouldn't look like the front end of a semi IMHO
I would actually still own a Taco but last time I went looking for a new one which was even larger than my last one, they had so downplayed the extra cab in favor of the double cab and it's LONG wheel base and small bed that I just couldn't do it.
Thank ghod for the 4Runner with it's 4 seats / or / Large bed area design and decent offroad wheel base!
The taco is moving further and further away from what I liked about the earlier small trucks from 'Yota. :/

I'm going to hold off on judgement until I see the TRD Off Road model.
I'm not a fan the current 2nd Gen Limited, but love the TRD version. They should've released more pic's of different models. I think it's the painted bumpers and chrome around the grill that's turning me off so far. Oh, and of course the wheels / tires.
I do like the new Chevy though (which I thought I'd NEVER say about a Chevy truck).
