2016 Taco

well I texted the warden pics and all I got back was :)

so I guess we will be putting in an allocation order in june for a double cab limited.
 
What ever happened to the 80s-90s trend of sharing components and body panels between mid-size SUVs and trucks (i.e. early 90s 4Runner/Tacoma or Pathfinder/Frontier)? In my opinion, this truck would look LOADS better if they would have made it look exactly like the 5th gen 4Runner from the doors forward. They could have literally used the front end of a 4Runner, extended the wheelbase by 6" and thrown a bed on the rear and had a beautiful truck; however, they chose to throw this gigantic nose on a truck with the old Tacoma proportions and ruin it.

Seriously? Thank God they didn't slap a 5th gen 4Runner nose on the Tacoma. If anything, I think this gives us all hope that the 6th gen 4Runner will have much improved styling. I'm not in love with the way this new Taco looks, but I'm glad they didn't take any styling cues from the 4Runner, that's for sure.

I wanted one for a while but then realized they are VERY overpriced and quite overrated. A double cab longbox Tacoma is a few inches shorter than a double cab shortbox F-250 so it's not really a small truck. It's a long truck that can't tow, haul or get good gas mileage. I can't understand why the resale is so ridiculous.

Valid points. A lot of this resale is built on reputation. You guys are right - these are not the proper compact trucks. I remember when they were selling the 2nd Gen Tacoma alongside the 1st Gen Tundra. They were too similar in size and the Tundra's advantage was the V8. I can't seem to like the new Tundra. It is the same truck they were selling 7 years ago. It may be proven, but I want a reason to buy a new one over a used one. I can't even say I like the current Hilux which is currently very outdated and not exactly something to behold in terms of styling either.

The front-end looks very much like the front-end on my '14 SR5 4Runner.

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll keep my last year 2ndGen 2015 Tacoma.

Oh HELL no. The 2016 Tacoma may not be a looker, but at least it isn't straight-up ugly.

Who at Toyota is coming up with these front end designs?

Well after looking at some more pictures taken from a human beings perspective and not like from the POV of a dog. The front end is no where near as dominant looking as it is in most of those top pics. And as such doesn't look nearly as offputting. Actually looks ok.

Honestly it's the same with the 14+ runner. The original pics with wide angle lenses close up and down low just accentuated a single body part beyond what someone would even see while actually standing next to the vehicle...

I think this looks better than the new Tacoma...(minus the toyota logo..prefer to put a old school toyota badge up front..)

but that's just me and my opinion.. hopefully the new 4runner doesn't get any styling cues from the Tacoma.

Why does everyone keep saying they want a car engine in their truck. This and I keep hearing "I hope it has the 2GR-FE".... Yea a Camry engine would be great in a truck.... What this Tacoma really needs is an updated truck engine, but I bet its just going to get the Dual VVTI 1GR-FE we have in our 5th Gen 4runners.

The 2016 still has a plastic bed, rear drums, and I will bet it still has the same old C-Channel Frame (yuck!) I do hope Toyota made some drastic changes to the drivetrain though, but knowing Toyota...
 
Man, reading through a couple of the threads on TW about this thing. :flamethrwoer2: :gun5: Hellfire and righteous fury for the most part from both haters and non-haters. I don't think it looks too terrible, except for the fugly tail lights (seriously, wtf?).
 
well at least they added backup sensors to the limited.

looks like the black front air dam is screwed in place, should make it easy to remove.

finally locking tailgate.

ugh chrome mirrors for the limited.

headlights remind me of a FJ cruiser assembly that was updated. wonder if the 2017 4runner will get these.

now just need interior shots to seal the deal for the warden.
 
Somebody who's crafty with Photoshop do us a mock up of a 2-3" lift and some duratracs!

I don't like it at first glance but then I didn't like the 5th gen T4R at first. Amazing how much difference a few subtle mods like bilsteins, plastidip, spidertrax, and duratracs can make from an aesthetic standpoint.

I don't think its horrendous as people seem to think. Im more looking forward to/worried about drivetrain options and the interior, I mean I can't look at the exterior while I'm inside driving it right? haha but honestly I can dig it, and I hated the 2014 4Runner when I saw it at first.
