2016 Trail Premium Pricing

Newbie here so excuse if not posting to the right spot. I'm in the process of buying a '16 Trail Premium and looking for insight if it's a good deal. Here are the details:

16,400 miles
KDSS
Running Boards
Sunroof
Gobi Rack on top
No cargo tray
Gray

The truck is clean and being detailed. They are offering out the door with a set of Toyota roof rails and cross bars (in case I want to remove the Gobi rack) is $39K. It's not from a Toyota dealer so it's not certified. I live in the Raleigh NC area.

What do you think of this deal? Seems there is a premium being placed on these Trail/TRD Premiums in the southeast as in other areas of the country they are far less.

Thanks all

If you want the roof rack, I don't think thats the worst OTD pricing ever. I am sure others will say you can do better and that they paid that brand new etc and its tough to swallow only 1-2k off new for something thats got 16kmiles on it but the roof rack is worth 1600ish so thats something to consider, its also already installed, DIY is easy but if you needed to have a shop install take on a bit more.

For reference in 2014, I paid a little over 40k OTD for my TEP, no rack of course.

Unless you really think you will want to revert I would tell the dealer to keep the OEM rack pieces and knock down the price a bit.

The challenge about comparing prices it it varies state by state, did they have a trade in (some states it helps with tax burden others it doesn't) etc etc etc......

Personally, if its exactly what you want get a deal thats fair all around - I don't plan to replace my 4runner anytime soon so if I paid an extra $500 over 10 years.......wont notice a bit.

Now, if you paid 50k for a TRD.......don't get me started

edit: If that was the first offer they said, and they are not a fixed price dealership, def. try to work them down a little bit but don't expect thousands off

Oh I didn't see it was OTD. Thats a pretty good price with the rack then. Offer them $37k see what they say. My guess would be they paid about $36k for that on a trade in, so there might be some wiggle room.

Their asking price was $40,444 (way high). The OTD of $39K is after all the darn fees but it will come down slightly after I transfer tags, etc. There's over $1k in fees sadly after taxes, processing fees, etc.

As for the bars, they are throwing those in because I told them they were required. They said they are all in at this price and can't do more. They are also doing a full detail inside and out and fixing all blemishes. Granted I would make them do that anyway but still helps.

NC is only 3% tax though, so I'm not as thrilled with this deal.

Basically comes down to what's the roof rack worth to YOU. The dealer didn't give whoever traded it jack for the roof rack, so I'd remove it from the equation for negotiating price, the dealer already did and they'll get their money either way.

I walked from a TRD ORP in GA without KDSS that was priced at 36k because it didn't make sense compared to the new prices.

I honestly wouldn't touch for more than 38, the difference to new just isn't there (unless you value that roof rack at MSRP).

Thanks and I recall I looked at this thread so thanks for the reminder. I've priced new and with KDSS the lowest I can get before taxes and fees is about $40,700 here in NC. Just not many of these around it seems. $39K OTD seems fair, not great to me but the rack has value as I can either use it or sell it. I won't be able to get anything more out of them. They are all-in.

Sounds like you have already worked them well, I would take it if that is the color you want, its in good shape and the rack is also wanted

For reference, I just got a 2017 ORP for 39k plus the fees / taxes. I had close to that price at multiple dealers too. Moonroof, KDSS, Cargo Tray (Toyoguard Premium, full hood protectant too). That was for brand new, manufacture date of 04/17.

I'm not far from you, and lived in Raleigh for a LONG time too. Make a road trip!!!

Hmm! Might have to consider expanding my search. Can you PM me some suggested dealers?

My canned response would be no, hell no, absolutely no.

This time, however, the Gobi rack seems to make it worth the $.

If you like the color and want a Gobi rack, I'd say consider it. Otherwise, price seems a bit high for a vehicle that already probably has about a year worth of its life (and mileage off of it).

I picked up my 2016 Trail Premium as a demo vehicle with about 2300 miles on it back in March for just over $38K (before fees and what not). I had about $20K of equity in my trade though which really helped me go ahead and go for it.

Thanks for all the great replies, love this group.

I've got a deposit on the '16 with the Mobi rack until Monday so I can sort things out. Heading to the PGA Championship so will have to deal with this when I return...I know, poor me.

Thanks again!

No. Too close to new.

"Throwing in the OEM bars"?? No, the PO left them with the truck.

You seem to be putting a value on the Gobi ... is this something you really want, really, really want?

"Take it off and sell it"?? Doubtful.

At this price and mileage, I'd want a CPO from Toyota.

"Starting price @ $40K". That's a joke - nothing more than making you think $39K is a good deal. Get your deposit back, tell them your wife doesn't like the rack, and you're going to see what else is out there ... see what happens.

Call me suspicious, but my mind goes to wondering why someone would put Gobi money into this 4R and then get rid of it so soon. The PO had to take a big hit trading it. Check the headliner carefully.

Seems high to me. I paid 40500 out the door also in nc for my 15 trail premium with kdss. For that money I would just pony up the extra couple grand and get a new one.

Glad to see they are holding value so well though. Sell you mine for 39$;) 21k miles.

If you would be putting gobi on regardless then this isn't too bad of a deal. I have the same truck in raleigh 16' trail premium w kdss & running boards I bought new in Jan for 42k OTD. I put on a gobi for $1600 (and a 6mo wait) so with just that I'm in 43.6k new I've now got 13500miles and I wouldn't expect anything over 38k. Like another post - tell them to keep the rails and cross bars and go down further on price.
