2017 4Runner/Prado... With picture

The 5th Gen is not sold in Argentina (and never has been AFAIK). They get the Prado & the SW4 (which looks to be a rebadged Fortuner).

But it looks like the current 4Runner is sold in Peru! Apparently with full-time 4WD and LSD even on the SR5? No Trail model. Thanks for the info

Yep, used to live there. When I lived in Peru, I remember you could get a new 4runner with a turbodiesel. I kid you not. I saw some brochure that I obviously can not show. To be honest, I still don't believe it.

4Runner, GX 460 and Prado all have the exact same 109.8" wheelbase, so a direct rebadge wouldn't change the 4Runner's footprint at all. :)

Oh yes! But the body of the Prado is much larger. Toyota would have to have a reason to upsize them (for a Runner), but again, what do I know. I'd love to see it and I'm sure it everyone here would too.

Related note: The Prado's front nose has been ugly for a few years now. It's godawful, nothing a bull bar wouldn't cure.

I am having a hard time following your post.
That's because you have no idea what you are talking about.

There is no "new Sequoia" and there hasn't been since 2007.
See THIS but thanks for playing

There is no hybrid version of the GX, nor has there ever been.
NEVER said there was a hybrid GX EVER, so I'm assuming you pulled that our of your.....well you know

There have not even been any spy pictures of the speculated Lexus "TX" that is expected to be a three row CUV that could replace the GX.
Spy photos...NO, media and concept coverage..YES Again see HERE

Your photos show a Toyota Tacoma, Lexus RX 350, Toyota Highlander and Land Cruiser Prado.

Wrong AGAIN. What you think is the highlander is the 2017 Sequoia

To follow up on Bimmer Bob's comments, I think you may have some of your Toyota/Lexus SUVs confused?

So you were off on every single point, and I'm hard to follow? You and bob can be confused together.

:roadkill:

I'm not confused at all. You said that the 4Runner was sold in other markets as the LC Prado, which is simply not true.

Dead link. And that's a Highlander.

This is a direct quote from your post:

We have owned every Lexus GX model ever sold including the hybrid models.

There have not even been any spy pictures of the speculated Lexus "TX" that is expected to be a three row CUV that could replace the GX.

The Lexus HPX Concept is from 2003...

Wrong AGAIN. What you think is the highlander is the 2017 Sequoia

Please google "2014Toyota Highlander" and let me know what you come back with. Here, I'll do the work for you. 2014 Toyota Highlander.

Better yet, let's go directly to Toyota.com - Highlander.

Sorry man... you have no idea what you're talking about.

No, I'm not. The only thing I got wrong was that I overlooked Canada as a market for the 4Runner, which was more of an oversight than anything else (sorry, guys!) since the Canadian auto market is basically an extension of the US market.

Also, a quick search of the Toyota of Taiwan site shows only the Prado for sale, no 4Runner - I don't know what you meant by "4Runner Namesake," but if you meant nameplate, that's not really relevant.

What you said is that the 4Runner is sold in other markets as the Prado, which is patently false. The LC Prado is sold in the US as the GX. Yes, it has more bells and whistles, but it is the same car, more or less. That's generally how rebadging works, by the way, how Lincoln charges more for a tarted-up Ford Fusion with different front fascia, etc.

I don't understand how you seeing the same truck in two versions (stripped down, and also loaded with options) proves your point, or disproves mine. The trucks you're seeing (GX and Prado) are the same other than their option specs, (possibly to include drivetrain changes). The fact that in China the Toyota and Lexus models are apparently sold alongside each other doesn't mean they aren't related.

Bottom line, what you said is that the 4Runner is sold as the Prado. Not true. The 4Runner (by any name) is only sold in the US...and Canada. As someone else pointed out, previous versions were sold in Japan as the Hilux Surf, but not the 5th Gen.

By the way, I've done my share of extensive travel in the ME & Asia (not China) and have driven LC's, LC Prados, and Fortuners.

The 4Runner By the name 4runner is actually avail in Taiwan. I did notice it is not avail on the Toyota TW site, but I know first hand that they are there, and a LOT of them. I get that you somehow feel you have something to prove but you don't. I like you the way you are.

I know the Prado is finished closer to the GX than to the 4Runner and not exactly the same as either... Can we drop that, most people on here have never seen a Prado in person and could care less. The interior of both however (plastics, seats, rear cargo area, taillights and doors) remain the same through all three models generally. So when I post pictures of a 2017 Prado, with new designs and features, it's not misguided, there certainty are design components that will carry through and we will see in the US.

Not sure why this is such a big deal to you, but it should not be.

Even more confusing is the fact that you're "liking" posts by others saying exactly the same thing as I - i.e., that the Toyota LC Prado = the Lexus GX series.

I click like when someone offers information or insight that I feel is relevant. I did not "like" your post because you came across a little "I own the internet", and I generally don't want to internet fight.

I am however feeling frisky today..... so.....:boxing:

I typed the "GX" hybrid by mistake. You are so willing to dig in, I assumed you would have caught that typo based on the picture alone given it was a RX in the picture, there are only two models of GXs and only the RX comes in hybrid. I have only ever owned one of the two GX models. I was referring to the RX, sorry for the mistake.

As far at the 2017 Sequoia, I based that on more than one article in my Apple News Feed. There is more than one article about the 2017 Sequoia..google "2017 Sequoia" here I will do it for you....https://www.google.com/search?q=201...ved=0ahUKEwiWmp_7mv3KAhXLaz4KHbtUB1MQ_AUICCgC

Here is a link to the apple new article. FWIW I just notice the photo with the steering wheel is a ford logo, but at 3am when i read these thing I seldom notice crap like that.

So yes, the GX was a typo and i have not owned EVERY (read two) models of the GX, it was the RX in the picture I was making mention of. And yes, I reposed an apple news article without fact checking first.

you win the internet, I award you 976 internet points.

Haha, I thought that was a Highlander...WTF is this guy talking about?

Yup, sure is, that's what I get for re-posting something I read on the internet.

to be fair.....my mother did a TON of drugs when she was pregnant...and I eat paint chips...

Ha... no big deal man. Just a lot of rumors and speculation out there with the Sequoia, 4Runner, GX, etc. It's easy to get a lot of it confused with platforms, rebadges, countries where sold, etc.

Based on comments recently made by Mark Templin, GM of Lexus, it looks like Lexus sees a long term plan for a BOF LX 570, but the omission of the GX is rather haunting:

Lexus Enthusiast: what’s the outlook on body-on-frame versus unibody? Do you see a place for both types of vehicle in the Lexus lineup?

Mark Templin: In the longterm, regulatory issues are going to force everyone in the industry to go to more unibody platforms. But in the short to mid-term, I still see a place in the lineup for a vehicle like the LX. We see that continuing for a long time.

There are markets around the world where a vehicle like the LX is really important. Eventually, every market in the world will have the same kind of regulations over CAFE and C02 emissions, and then eventually you will see even more unibody SUVs on the market in general.

So there you have it straight from the horse's mouth: LX is Lexus' idea of the future of BOF SUVs. We may see Lexus transfer the "GX" name to a new unibody vehicle, as the GX is about at the end of it's life cycle anyway. They could also heavily refresh it - like they have done with the Tundra, LX and Land Cruiser - and keep it around for a few more years, while adding a new unibody vehicle above or beneath it.

Back to the issue at hand, I wouldn't be mad about a Prado rebadge for the next gen 4Runner... just so long as our version has a different front end and revised interior.

Cheers :high5:

The J120/J150 Land Cruiser Prado is the basis for the 4th & 5th gen 4Runner, Tacoma, FJ Cruiser, and GX line of vehicles. It is not a 4Runner, it is the "Common Ancestor" of these vehicles, they are all based on the Prado frame and rough body architecture (note, I specify frame as the actual ladder frame here, not the over all sheetmetal unit). The closest analogous counterpart to the Prado is the GX470/GX460 as they are mostly rebadged Prados with massaged sheet-metal.

The 4Runner has never been sold outside of the North American market as a "4Runner", instead up until 2005 the 4Runner was badged as a "Hilux Surf" in Non-North American Markets. This brings up some confusion because the Toyota Hilux and it's frame were discontinued in the US in '94; in '95 the 1st Gen Tacoma was introduce and it was underpinned by a different frame that the 4Runner shared. This means that the "Hilux Surf" badge is misleading because in reality the vehicles are underpinned by different frames. To further confusion, in 2005 the "Hilux Surf" was replaced by the "Fortuner" in Non-North American markets which is underpinned by the Hilux's IMV platform and shares nothing in common with the Land Cruiser Prado or 4Runner.

Also whoever posted a picture of a 3rd Gen Highlander as the new Sequoia is reading too many click-bait auto-news websites. There hasn't been any news of a Sequoia replacement, if there was it will probably retain the Tundra underpinnings and rough styling as it has been for the last two generations. It makes no sense to change the underpinnings and styling to a Unibody and that of the Highlander; if anything they would drop the Sequoia rather than try to reinvent it as a Unibody.

There will not be a GX Hybrid, they are more likely to offer that option with the TX than to bother trying to develop a hybrid truck/SUV drivetrain. If anything Toyota/Lexus are interested in shrinking their engines and boosting them in the near future.

The TX is something Lexus is working on, but whether or not it will replace the GX is mostly speculation garnered from "read between the lines" commentary on Lexus's current product planning.

Well, I certainly don't think I own the internet, whatever that means...I would suggest that perhaps you imbued my initial post with some sort of negative tone, because it certainly wasn't intentional.

Anyway, the truth of the matter is that all these vehicles are similar. Our 5th Gen 4Runner shares a platform (J150) with the Land Cruiser Prado, although that SUV shares much more in common (including body panels) with the GX460. And even though all 3 trucks are "related," I feel like the Lexus GX is more of a rebadged Prado then the Prado is a rebadged 4Runner...but whatever, I'm tired of arguing/discussing this. It wasn't my goal to start an internet fight, so I apologize.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that we dig Toyota's BOF SUV's, no matter what they happen to be called. I had the distinct pleasure of spending two weeks in Oman last year in possession of an LC200 with manual transmission. And that thing was stripped down like crazy, very utilitarian, nothing like the luxo-barge Toyota foists upon us in the US.

You aren't the one who needs to apologize.
