This is a truck that i am looking forward to seeing. I have no need for towing capacity (5000 lbs is all i need max). But, i do need the empty bed for Home Depot supplies and gardening stuff. At the same time, i need a truck that rides nice, quiet, and gets decent MPGs because this would be my main vehicle to replace my MDX when the time comes. No off-roading needed, but all-weather capability needed.

Nice Truck, I especially like the trunk bed, that is cool.
But I would never buy another Honda again. The engines are great, its that Honda uses cheep parts. Don't get me wrong, I like Honda. I've had two Honda's with bad AC compressors and a few friends with Honda cars/SUV's also had AC compressor issues along with bad starters. Not sure what happened to Honda, but they do have some good looking cars.

Owned an 07 Ridgeline RTL I purchased new. Drove it 180k, sold it 12/13. Best vehicle for Winter I've ever owned.Probably my favorite vehicle to-date. Ironically I like my '16 TRD better than my '14 Limited.

New truck looks like the rest of Honda's lineup. It doesn't stand out like the first gen. I will likely look at one, but doubt I'll get rid of the TRD.

Ugh. Why did they stick a minivan face on it? Something with some cajones would have been nice.

I agree, not much of a fan. But I guess it goes along with changing the Pilot from the box shape it was to basically a larger CR-V. Not very excited where Honda has been going lately.

I'm not sure that's fair to call that a "Truck", perhaps a Honda Ranchero? I love how the back half has a cut in it to imply it's a BoF vehicle rather than the very bland Avalanche rip-off the previous generation looked like. Then again it just looks like they cut the back of a Pilot off and stuck a bed on it, a lot of that looks like a Pilot now that I look at it more.

The tailgate is a neat idea, but I imagine it won't last much; I wouldn't be surprised if it has issues from people sitting on it. That center console is very tacky looking, did they talk with the designers of the Toyota Pacifica... I mean Highlander? That corrugated sliding plastic "door" is very cheap and tacky looking and not at all comfortable to rest your arm on (on of my many gripes with the Highlander). I know Honda is really proud that it's got the widest bed width in it's segment (I'm surprised they even let it play in the same segment as other mid-sized pick-ups), but it's obviously because they have no travel in the rear and they raised the bed very high (ah the irony, it's a damn unibody minivan, but the bed sits at a height you'd see on a BoF truck; at least the Odyssey has a nice long, wide, and low cargo area.)

Of course it will be FWD with a very mild AWD system, I've never really been impressed by Honda's AWD set-ups (then again, there's only a couple AWD Toyota's that bother to garner my interest as well.) I don't see the appeal of what is essentially a Honda Odyssey with the back cut off, why not just buy the minivan it is and enjoy your firewood being dry in the winter (oh, that's right because Honda doesn't make an AWD minivan...)?

I don't know... I guess if you don't want a minivan because it doesn't look "cool" and you have no use for even a cheapy four banger Tacoma this fits the bill? It just seems more like a failed Chinese clone of the Ranchero than anything worth while.

Something I found while looking up more pictures of the Ridgeline, it's not entirely true; but it's pretty funny none the less:

I have to laugh at some of you guys. The Honda Ridgeline is one of the best engineered vehicles out there. It is simply clever with more than enough capability for 99.9% of people if they were honest with themselves and that's where Honda dropped the ball. They don't realize the insecurity that is inbred into typical truck buyers. A manly, masculine look is more important to most of them than actual performance. They should have built the exact same truck with lots of manly bits designed into it. Do any of you doubt that a unibody can't be designed to outperform a twin rail frame? Really? Don't buy into the hype. The Ridgeline is an amazing vehicle and if I didn't need covered storage and a bit more offroad capability for work I would own one.

I don't know I don't see this being better than a frame, off-roading aside since it's obviously not at all designed for it; it's still a mainly FWD Minivan with the back cut off. The cargo area sits higher than a minivan, so loading and unloading is more cumbersome, it looks like a Pilot in and out, and it for the most part has nothing truck-like about it besides the bed. A Honda Odyssey would perform much better in every respect and give you more security for stuff in the back; they'd have been better off building a panel van version of the Odyssey.

Though I do agree if they embraced the "macho" look it'd sell much better since it'd appeal to the hipster crowd who don't want a minivan but can't handle a truck.

Not a fan of the front, it looks like an Odyssey. Everything else looks good.

My uncle, a semi retired realtor, has an 07 AWD. He has 324,000 miles and is good about keeping the fluids clean thanks to me. A lazy pre cat O2 sensor and an alternator is all that has gone bad outside the normal items that need changing. Changing the timing belt on this engine is not that fun....

The Tonka Truck I had as a four year old, was more manly than that rehashed minivan..

Yeah, 3 kids later and working constantly to keep bread on table, i think that buying a vehicle just for showing off my "cajones" is the last thing i need. Strangely as i get older, showing off my cajones or wealth is not that important, if at all.

YMMV.

This time around, i think that Honda learned its mistake from 1st gen...the truck needs to have a traditional look to get more buyers. The 1st get was too extreme...almost Aztec like that alienated many.

Although unibody by nature, remember, that many unibodies nowadays have frame rail-like reinforcements to further strengthen the unibody. Land Rover does this. Honda does this too.

You don't think Honda's AWD system is any good? My Acura MDX SH-AWD would argue with you! :D This AWD system in the new Ridgeline is not SH-AWD, but at least has torque vectoring which makes it better than most Toyota system to date. I believe that this AWD activates with any acceleration, cornering, and of course slippage. That is plenty good for me (and my needs). But, yeah, i wish that they had put in SH-AWD in there because SH-AWD is full-time AWD. But oh well, this Ridgeline system probably saves a few more pennies in gas. And b/w a part-time 4wd system vs. AWD with TQ Vectoring, i will pick AWD all day long for my on-road/foul weather needs.

For the rest of your post, i think that you are clueless...with all due respect! Answer me these questions:

1. Do you currently own a minivan?

2. Do you have kids?

Let me answer the questions on my end. I still own a 2008 Sienna...so, obviously, i am not cool since i own one! :D I will probably buy another Sienna when this one dies. (I also own a MDX for daily driving...Sienna is my "weekend" car.) I have 3 kids...all under 10.

How do you carry firewood, dry wall, etc. in a minivan if your kids are in it? Even if kids are at home, it is a PIA to take out the car seats AND the 2nd row captain chairs (I have Limited). And then after carrying the lumber, etc. you have to clean the WHOLE MINIVAN to keep the kids from having allergy attack from the dust!

Or how about carrying home a large plant or small tree? How do you fit that into a minivan? Again, see above argument regarding room and dust/dirt. HAVE YOU EVER TRIED IT in real life? I doubt it. I have. Trust me when i say this...you have no clue dude!

Cheap Tacoma 4-banger? Ok, so, instead of this Ridgeline, you want me to buy a gutless wonder on the highway who sucks more gas than the Ridgeline on a bad day?!!! And i wonder why 4-banger trucks don't sell well! Oh yeah, because they get the same damn mileage as their 6-cylinder brother! Why didn't i think of that?! :D

For me, this Ridgeline is going to replace my MDX, not my Sienna.

Yeah, i don't think that the Ridgeline was made for the Rubicon trail nor to trailer your mobile home. I bet you that this Ridgeline will run circles around ANY traditional truck on-road in good and bad weather. And this is where it will be superior to traditional trucks for 90% of the truck buyers.

As for panel van version, Honda did try to some degree a few years ago...called Honda Element. I bought one for my father. 4-banger too! And you know what? It was a sales failure! Sucks gas worst than my huge MDX!

Minivan and trucks are two different things with different purpose. See above post by me.

Macho look? I have out grown that phase of my life....

Not to defend Honda...they have tons of issues with their transmissions! Thus, i demanded extended warranty on powertrain when i got my MDX.

But your implication with the pic above is funny. So, a saggy 4runner is macho? An FJ Cruiser with a torn front end because of too much torque on the frame is macho?

I don't know about you, but Honda engines have pretty good torque when compared to their Toyota counterparts.

The tailgate is a neat idea, but I imagine it won't last much; I wouldn't be surprised if it has issues from people sitting on it.

My Gen 1 was rated for 500#. Never had an issue with HEAVY people sitting on it or the dual action wearing out. No need for a tailgate step.
