friend of mine has an 07 ridgeline and he regularly tows with it and sometimes goes over the limit and has had zero trans issues thus far, just to add a testimonial

I'm very interested in the new Ridgeline. I don't think I'd get rid of my 4Runner, so off-road ability isn't a necessity. A quiet, comfortable vehicle that can hold a single motorcycle or tow a group of dirtbikes is. And this seems to fit the bill nicely, while most like getting better mileage than any other pickup. The all-wheel drive will get me and my family to the mountains to go snowboarding or far enough into the desert to set up camp for a moto weekend. I can't wait for more info on this thing!

One thing of significance at least for me is that Toyota REFUSES to support either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto...Toyota will go with 3rd party. Honda has welcome both Apple and Android with open arms. This will play into the decision making for sure when shopping for next car.
Regarding Ridgeline, the rear cargo compartmentr is waterproof AND has holes to drain from bottom.

Many years ago when kiddo #1 was on the way my wife and I almost bought a Ridgeline. We were actually looking at the Chevy Avalanche but what caught my attention was comparing the beds between the two. The bed on the Ridgeline was actually bigger than the Avalanche. This was important at the time because we hauled our two huskies in separate dog crates everywhere. They both fit in the Ridgeline but not in the Avalanche. We ended up not buying the Ridgeline because the dealers in the area sucked to work with. I actually ended up buying a Pontiac G6 (1 year old but very cheap).
While I'm sure the new Ridgeline will be good for most, the styling just doesn't do it for me. I also want a little more ground clearance and a low range transfer case something I also like. All my Honda motorcycles over the years have been great though.
However, I bet my folks will like it's looks inside and out. My mom has a 2012 Pilot and loves it. It's been a really good vehicle for her and my dad. Of course my folks also liked the crosstour so that seems to be who Honda is targeting these days.

Well, that does have the block, crankshaft, and heads from the Ridgeline, and maybe the grill garnish.
Beyond that, it is an entirely custom built tube frame chassis race vehicle.

The engine is out of an Indycar, its the HR3535TT which yes, will supply the block and crank to the new Ridgeline.

I think it looks good in the all black version above.
I think the main problem is the shorter "stub" hood. We're all used to pickups with long boxy hoods, and we have an idea of what the "right" proportions are. When I look at this at certain angles, and in colors...the shape hurts my head a little.
I'm not saying it is bad for its purpose; in fact it will probably be excellent. The shape will just take getting used to....oooh my poor head.
I have too much fun with my 5th gen to even ponder one of these right now, but I don't doubt that the ridgeline will faithfully serve many people as an honest, usable, practical, well thought out, every day, non-work truck (the same goes for the few folks that do use it as a work truck; I'm sure a few businesses out there will go for these).

So I guess the faux bed is the big deal since before these things would get totaled out in an accident pretty regularly. The bed sheetmetal is it's own unit that bolts on to the unibody I guess? I dunno some Ridgeline fan/owner was telling me about it and how excited they were for the change...
It does remind me of a knock-off Hilux, but then again a lot of European trucks tend to have that round nose look...

The "composite box" is a hit/miss idea I think, good idea for the drain plug and using it as an ice chest, ect. Bad idea to not seal off the spare tire equipment (poor placement as well) from moisture so it will collect humidity in a sealed enviroment...
The vibration panels are an interesting idea... It's not new technology but the implementation is unique and if the fidelity and reliability can be kept up; I think that's a very promising and innovative idea. They didn't really go too much in depth about the tailgate, which again I feel may not be as sturdy as one would like for extended use/reliability, but the design is very cool so I do hope it works out; if anything another manufacturer can correct where Honda fails if it doesn't turn out well.
Still not sold on their justification for the segment, but whatever; it's meant to get hipsters from the bargin-bin Civic/Element and Subaru crowds more than anything I suppose.
