My 2004 4Runner was starting to show its age a little, which after 13 years and 150K miles is not unusual. I got it into my head that this was the time of life when things start to go wrong, so I could either get ready to invest in it to keep it around for another 100K miles or so, or just bite the bullet and get a new one.
So, I got a new one. A 2017 Limited, in Metallic Gray with black interior, plus a few options. I have to say, in the 4 days I've had this one, I have been really impressed with the features, build quality, and just everything else. I had to study up on Entune and how it all works, and it could use a little more low end torque, too. But otherwise, it's very intelligently designed. I really, really like it. Hopefully it will last me just as long as my old one, which didn't owe me a penny.
I don't understand all the criticism in the media about this truck. It seems like writers pick on little things and blow them out of proportion. But when you take a close look, it shows up very well across the board. And what other real competition is there? A Jeep? Or a Tahoe? Maybe for someone else. I won't be doing much offroad in this truck, but I though something designed to go offroad would be more sturdy than a car-based crossover. My old one proved that out pretty well. But on the road, it's really a nice truck that handles very well. And it's so quiet. And comfortable to drive.
A well designed, well made, extremely reliable ride, that's fun to drive. What else could I ask for? OK, a lower price. But I'm happy with it.
