2018 TRD Off Road Premium MPG

2018 ORP with 1500 miles - last fuel up = 18.7 calculated. Only mid grade used and 75:25 City:Highway miles.

17 SR5 4x4 with 7800 miles. Running heavy E rated 265/70R17 KO2 tires. I live in a really hilly area. Winter average was 16, summer is about 18. I drive 70-75. It’ll do 20 if I keep it under 65. My 4Runner consistently gets better mileage than my 2nd gen Tacoma did with the same tires. I was getting 13.5 in the winter and 16 in the summer.
My personal opinion is if you want to drive a 4Runner with somewhat capable tires expect 16-17 and be happy if you get more. When people complain about the 4Runner being ancient with low fuel economy due to the powertrain they miss out on what makes the 4Runner such a good vehicle. Simple, rugged, reliable, and proven. Not everyone needs these features and for those folks a Highlander might be a better option.

I don't believe it has been mentioned but the MPG display can be RESET at any time and a new average MPG will begin to display. For instance, if you reset coming down a huge mountain with a tail wind you will get better MPG than average. Conversely, if you reset before going up the same mountain against the wind, your MPG will be worse than average.

Having owned 2 previous 4-Runners as well a 2001 Tundra, I knew the gas mileage wouldn't be great. Coming, most recently from a Subaru CrossTrek that regularly got 30 mpg, I decided to just bite the bullet and enjoy the 4-Runner for its great attributes and to heck with gas mileage. So...I'm pleasantly surprised with my early results.
I live in SW Virginia, just a mile or so off the Blue Ridge Parkway so HILLY terrain. My first tank was 18.3 followed with the 2nd of 19.05. These were all 2 lane mountain roads with very little traffic, varying speed, typical break in type driving. The third tank was 80% interstate at 65 - 70 mph. Couldn't be happier with my Fuelly results of 23.0 for that tank and an overall average for the first 900 miles of 19.8. I was prepared for something more like 17, maybe 18. Jim happy.

Moved further from work and have been putting more highway miles on my 2017 trdorp
