Yes I know this is the 3rd gen forum, I am a 3rd gen owner,
my daughter in law just bought a 2019 TRD Pro 4runner and I am impressed.
I have not driven a 5th gen until now, I have driven a 4th gen and did not like them so much.

My son and daughter in law said "Dad you should get a new 4runner"

I said no thanks, 1 ) I love my 3rd gen
2) It does not have so much electronic stuff to worry about
3) mines paid for

Wife has a 2014 Trail Edition Premium 4Runner and I love the hell out of it. We've been talking about going to a newer version but likely going to wait to see what they do in a couple years with a face-lift, tech, etc..

I drove a 2018 last year at a dealership. It felt just like driving my 98, same steering feel and all that. Same drivetrain options. It just felt more plush and softer ride. It was also oddly underpowered for its weight. My 4Runner with a supercharger has much more pep in it.

And yes, it didn't cost $52,000 lol! They gave me the best one on their lot to drive and I still preferred mine.

I like "2) It does not have so much electronic stuff to worry about"

My 2000 landcruiser have 2 switches horizontally on the center console just like those fancy buttons on 5th gen and newer toyota trucks. It collects dust and gets jammed. I wonder how these newer trucks going to function in about 10 years with so many buttons placed horizontally.
