Then the 4R sales will drop into the toilet like the Taco sales did. 4R sales are through the roof while taco sales are down, there's a reason for that. I bought my 2016 taco brand new, 3500 miles later I traded it in on a brand new 4R, loved the truck, hated the 3.5 and 6 speed auto. If Toyota is foolish enough to drop that junk in the 4R it will also make the 5th gen hold it's value even more on the used market.

It probably will. I know the 4.0 w/5 speed is tried and true,..but,...it has that soooooo stuck-in-the-mud feel.

If you think the 4.0 is a dog just wait till you drive the 3.5 ZERO power until over 4K RPM which is useless in a truck. Good luck with the 6 speed auto trans and it's constant shifting up and down on even the smallest hill. The 4R needs a V8 option again.

Tacoma sales are down? Please show me where you're getting your figures from. In fact Tacoma sales are UP and only getting stronger. They nearly sold 200k units last year.

Looks like I got bad info on the taco sales, I stand corrected. Either way, the 3.5 and auto trans are junk. Lets hope they never find their way into the 4R

Also take into account all of those Tacoma buyers that bought the truck and sold it after a while because of the tranny. The engine I had not many complaints besides the torque band at higher rpms but once I t hit the 4000 rpm it was fun. But the tranny was the worst tranny I’ve driven. Also problems with the rear differential leaking. No regrets about trading it for my T4R..I sure hope they don’t put the same combo in The new 4Runner.

Yes, I know, very close to the same power. Look at the curve, that's the meat and potatoes. 4.0 makes more power at lower RPM than the 3.5 The other big issue is the double OD transmission and the way it's geared. When you run a 33" tire and a 4.88 gear and it's still not enough, there's a problem.
