1 month after getting my 2021 4runner and searching the world for tuner to flash tune it i found that the ecu in nearly uncrackable and untunable and i dont want to wait for magnusson or anyone since i see post of people since 2020 waiting ,now i only have air raid intake and headers and kitback i guess thats the most i can go with out braking my engine. Money is not an issue for me so i cam to the conclusion that i have 3 options .

Option 1 install a stand alone its either motec m130 or maxecu pro (in this i will loose many 2020+ feature like radar function which i love about the car and others that i dont know yet)

Option 2 install a unichip which is a piggy back ecu (has anyone try that or any piggy back)

option 3 change the ecu\pcm to the older version and again loose radar functions on cruise control.

Swapping Ecu's

Your option #3, do you have any evidence that swapping a 2019 into a 2020+ will work? I have a pro-charger sitting in my engine bay on my 2021 that I cant tune. If losing radar and some safety features is the extent of it... that sounds like a great option. I figured the previous gen ECU would brick and become a paperweight. Very interested in your response on this...

One of the reasons it took two months to get the first reply might be posting this in the 6th generation section.
Current 4Runners are 5th generation.

Magnuson came out with the 2020+ SC and Tune right after your post. Anyhow, VFTuner does have tunes for the 5th gen and, Magnuson is now using VFTuner for the SC tune. Otherwise, I think your only other real option is your 3rd option and to find someone willing to tune it. Do some serious research on what changed with the ECU's beyond maybe just the radar stuff. My '22 has positive air injection which other 4R's do not have and part of the reason it took Magnuson a while to convince toyota to give them access.
