Ok, truck runs fine, no issues with backfiring or really poor mileage. Supposed fresh timing chain and head on the truck within the last year. No receipts to prove it. Recently I noticed a rattle noise while accelerating above 3k RPM and when I downshift (regardless of RPM) it makes the same noise briefly. Im fairly new to Toyotas. Does this sound like anything specific or is it just a case of checking my timing chain guides and adjusting the valves? 302k on the clock so Im leary of bottom end issues and every little noise raises my awareness. It also has a taping/rattle at idle that seems the loudest when laying directly under the cat. Im stumped and dont want to throw parts at the truck. I appreciate any and all help.

Before you can know what's causing a sound, you have to know where it's coming from. You're going to have to narrow down the location before anybody can give you anything more than very general advice.
Yeah I just need an extra set of hands to operate the throttle while I hunt for the sound. I did just change all the belts and this sound is new so I wonder if there is a connection. I do know that it sounds very much like its coming from the engine bay when I bring the R's up while standing in front of the truck and it sounds very much like its coming from under the truck when Im sitting in the cab. Just need to do some more looking with a buddy.

Good to hear. I was wondering if it was something like that when you mentioned the noise starting after your front end work.
