$25 Denso MAF?

Hey guys! I have a recurring p0171 and it's confirmed that there are no vacuum leaks now after replacing the charcoal canister so I believe it's the maf. It was replaced by the previous owner but looks like it may not be a Denso. I keep seeing people say Denso's are expensive and the dealer wants $180 but on eBay, I see plenty of brand new ones for about $20-25. Is this the correct part? Am I missing something or have they just come down?

Be wary of counterfeit Toyota parts on Ebay. A few members on here got some fakes on more expensive items like injectors, which advertised very low prices. $25 seems too good to be true, so it probably is.

Amazon does have the same DENSO part (verified to be genuine on this board) for $52.

Thank you! I was literally about to pull the trigger. Want to kick this CEL for good so i'll pay the $52. I wasn't aware of the counterfeit problem. Got a link to the genuine verified Denso one?
 
FWIW, I've been running a $14 Amazon knockoff MAF with no issues, codes, etc, for several months now on my '99.

I prefer to use non-OEM parts when 'diagnosing' (read: throwing parts at it to see what fixes it), due to the cost involved. I'd rather potentially waste $14 than $52 (or the dealer $180)

Non-OEM parts generally work just as well up front; they just break sooner.

I've had some sensors "work" out of the box, like what you said for diagnosing, but tend to have inaccurate readings causing odd idle, poor gas mileage, etc. I've been burned enough to not even try that route anymore.

Thanks for your input! In my case, my maf is fairly new but aftermarket. Funny thing is as soon as I ordered it, the cel went away on its own. we'll see if it stays off.
 
P0171 can also be caused by the pre cat O2 or air fuel ratio sensor (depending on your year). So If you haven't changed that in a while you might look into that also.
 
I have the P0171 code and it won't go away. I have done almost everything except O2 sensors. I hate the CEL always being on.
 
I purchased the same one from Amazon a few months ago. I was expecting a made in Japan part - but the box show up that said "made in Vietnam." I believe contributes to why the aftermarket Denso sensors are so much cheaper that the OEM Denso sensors.

That being said - it cleared my P0171, along with a few other codes, and it seems to be working just fine after a few thousand miles.

P0171 can be caused by the O2 sensor, MAF sensor, or most commonly a vacuum leak in the engine bay. I think I remember you said you had a supercharger, so my bet's on a vacuum leak.

Well my Denso (made in Vietnam) from amazon cleared it up and it starts better cold too! The other sensor definitely was fairly new but it was off brand and the code would come and go about every 40 miles. It's been 320 miles now and no code!
