255/80 17 - Toyo vs Falken

I’ve been researching the Toyo Open Country At3 and the Falken Wildpeak AT3W for some time now and am confused by the conflicting reports I’ve found online. For example, Tirerack rates the Falken above the Toyo for wet weather and snow performance while Discount Tire’s Treadwell reports the opposite. TireTerrain.com also shows the Toyo as performing better in wets, snow, and off-road…

I live in the PNW so I’m looking for a tire with solid wet weather and snow performance, and something that will excel while traveling dirt and gravel roads and towing our Taxa Mantis trailer. Wondering if anyone has used both and has any honest feedback.

I’ve been running the stock “P”265 Falkens for about 35k miles now here in the northeast.
I have been satisfied with the wet weather characteristics. The limited snow experience has been mixed. A couple of wet dusting snow events were extremely slippery with the tires and scary. Another event with about 6” a bit more dry the tires had more bite and control. As I understand it, the LT tires are a harder compound so the snow and siping experience may be slightly different. I’ve had a good experience with these as I bought them right when they came out and have no balance or wear issues.

I liked the Wildpeak in Montana rains in 2018 and 2019. I also liked it in snow on Moab trails. I did NOT like it on the one occasion I used the tires in urban slush.

The Toyo AT II, which I liked overall, were not great in rain so it would not surprise me at all if the AT III is not among the best in that area either. And that was on a Subaru. Ditto with the KO2, I could feel deteriorating wet road performance even in a Subaru.

Do consider the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss, now also available in P-metric. My ATZ P3 have given me no trouble in Colorado and British Columbia rains. Even now at 8-9/32s, driving trough heavy Canada rain over the last 2 weeks, no issues. I use LTE.
