285/75-17s

I'm sure this question has been posted a lot, but I'm looking for the "real" story on 285/75-17s. Without a lift, just how much rubbing is there, and can it be eliminated by cutting the plastic and mudflaps around the wheel well? Or is the clearance just not there (suspension parts, body panels, etc) for this size tire?

I have no clue. But providing more information may help you get the information faster, namely what year 4Runner do you have?

From everything I have seen, it can't be done without a lift. With a lift, you can expect to do some trimming to fit those tires.

Thanks for all the input.
Can a lift be accomplished without using spacers? I would like to put some different shocks/struts, but not too sure what route to take. I read all the info on the yotatech web site, but the write up doesnt say if the upgraded shocks are used alone or with spacers. I have been told that spacers really roughen up the ride, and I drive 60 miles a day to work and dont need that kind of a ride. Any input from anyone who has done anything like this would help. Thanks.
