as the title says, i wanna get a set of 285/70r17 (dont know what tire yet) but i really dont wanna get new upper control arms if i can avoid that cost. with the stock rims and spidertrax will i rub on the control arms? will other rubbing be an issue? I have an 05 sr5 2wd v8. 3" spacer and fj's on the front, soon to have a 2" spacer and fj's on the rear. Dont plan on doing any heavy off roading because its my daily driver and cant afford to destroy it. just think it looks great.

:blah::blah::blah::deadhorse: its hard to search this kind of thing because everyone has an opinion about something. just wanting to know if the new UCAs were a definite thing.

I have 285's and Spidertrax with 3" lift and stock UCA's and rubbing of course. The difference may be that I do off-road quite a bit. You'll have to do some trimming on the front and probably be okay on the rear with just the mudflaps removed.

is the rubbing horrible? or bearable enough to not fix?

This is hard to answer correctly because different tires brands in that size are not all the same. I am going to say that you are probably going to rub. How much I cant say but risking rubbing on a sidewall is not a risk I take. I couldn't even move my truck without the spacers I have, let alone the trimming that was done to make sure I won't rub period on the trails. DO it right the first time and you wont have to worry. o.o2

My 285's rubbed everything but the (stock) upper control arms. I think the FJ wheels helped along with the wheel spacers but they caused more rubbing on the fenders. What tires you get really does make the difference.

You're going to rub without doing tons of trimming the fender liners, probably the fenders a little, removing the front mudflaps, chopping the body mount and avoiding large bumps.

The issue is that the spacers will bring those tires closer to or right under the fender edge, on compression they will rub. The fender liners are not very forgiving in the front, I installed my SW before I got my 285's but many members need to trim a bit in the front to avoid rubbing. Also the body mount is going to be an issue on tight turns and possibly compression I don't have too much issue with it right now, but I am running stock rims with LR UCA's on my truck. The mudflaps had to go, I liked them, but I had to trim the fronts so much it wasn't worth keeping them on.

Also if your alignment within spec? Sometimes with spacer lifts you can't bring the camber & caster back to spec and it'd be a shame to spend good money on 285's to just run through them like stock Dunflops due to incorrect tire wear.
