2nd Gen cup holders. Same width as a single DIN radio slot?

Here's the plot.

1) Take one of these:
89 95 Toyota Pickup 4Runner Cup Drink Holder Front Center Dash Mounted | eBay

?? Toyota Pickup Truck 4Runner Dash Mounted Cup Holder Cupholder 4582 ? | eBay


2) Cut up a couple of these:
84 85 86 87 88 89 Toyota Pick Up 4Runner Marron Radio Ash Tray Dash Bezel | eBay

3) Take out the ash tray and cigarette lighter and put the 2nd Gen cup holder into the 1st Gen radio bezel where the ash tray and cigarette lighter were.

I know plopping aftermarket DIN slot cup holders into the stock radio slots won't work for the 1st Gen trucks (due to the shifters).

Not sure if the 2nd Gen cup holder would fit in the DIN slot or not, or if the cup holder would clear the shifters when the cup holders are slid out all the way, or if the cup holders could slide into the bezel all the way without bumping the A/C box (if it is deeper than the ash tray assembly).

Eyeballing the 2nd link to the cup holders there, it looks like the assembly is roughly 7"w X 5"d.

Also looks like the 2nd Gen cup holder is 7" wide and would fit width wise.

Seems like it might fit.

Any thoughts?

I'm not positive on the 2nd gen but we were just looking at a 2006 Tacoma that had the cup holder in the center of the dash. It seems wider than a stereo. I hadn't thought that putting the holder below the radio would interfere with the shifter so I need to figure that out.

Search "DIN cup holder" on eBay. DIN is a standard (German?) measurement not exclusive to Toyota. Not sure what size your stereo is but my game plan is to put in single DIN Kenwood and one of these puppies. I paid $14.99. It will attach to the stereo brackets. The one I show has two cup holders and a small cubby for the iPod or whatever. The stereo and the cupholder stacked should not make it necessary to trim the bezel or eliminate the cig plug or ashtray.

I had seen that one before, but I assumed it wouldn't fit. The one in the 2nd link I posted looks to come out about 5", which would hit the auto shifters. Plus, even if it did clear, the cups would be tilted back somewhat.

If you get it and it fits, please let me know.

I've got an auto now, but I plan to switch to a W56 top shift (if I can find one) soon. Worst case I get a W56 forward shift and convert to top shift, but I'm not sure if that puts the shifter too far forward to clear or not.

Maybe I go barking up that tree if need be.

Not that jamming a cup holder in my dash is some kind of imperative, but it seemed like it might be a slick little mod that wouldn't look out of place if done correctly.
