2nd gen keeps blowing am2 fuse *HELP*

So a little background.

I picked this 1993 4runner up for 500 bucks. needed a clutch. drove it 2 hours on a dying clutch to get it home.

Get it home parked it. It sat for 2 months. this weekend i was waiting for my dad to swap the clutch so i was looking at the "awesome" wiring for my deck. Since the key is a pain to turn in the ignition i never actually started it after i pulled it into the garage.

Next day dad and i swap clutch, lower truck. go to start the truck, cranks but doesn't turn over. pop the hood, look and we blew the ignition fuse.
Put a new fuse in, start it up and it runs. runs for about 15 seconds and then dies.

Check the fuses again. Blew the IGN fuse again and also the 30 amp AM2 fuse

Put new fuses in both and now it just blows the AM2 fuse. Tried jumping the fuse but the wire gets extremely hot.

Some things to think about

-The fuse only pops when i crank the engine, not when the key is in the "ON" position. So that tells me that the fuel pump and fuel pump relay shouldn't be shorting out.

-The truck ran flawless prior to this happening. I doubt it is related to the clutch change but it very well could be. We could be shorting out a wire on the starter or pinching another wire, but then why did it start up and run is my question.

I know there is a short somewhere. But as any person who has dealt with vehicle electrical. It can be a big PITA as i don't even know where to start.

I searched and found people with similar problems. Some said a screw was shorting a wire out inside the distributor .

But it could be anything

Just looking for maybe a place to start checking or any ideas on what it might be

Thank you so much

When I have a test light hooked up to positive on battery and I touch the top of the efi fuse. I can hear the efi relay clicking

Not sure if this helps any. I just need to located the problem. I need to use this vehicle

Also, the previous owner(s) wired in some fog lights and there was a switch under the stereo deck. ( the power wire was snipped so it's not working maybe thought that had something to do with the problem

One more thing. None of my power locks or power windows work (with the key in any position)

It appears that when my stick key was having problems i sprayed some stuff in the key cylinder that was designed to help with stick locks and such

I guess i sprayed too much as i "flooded" the igntion. took the key cylinder all apart, cleaned it and let it air dry for about 1.5 hours. Put it all back together and in the car.

Now instead of blowing the AM2 Fuse it blows the EFI fuse only when i crank it.

Can it have something to do with the starter? thats about the only thing i can think of that we took off that would have an effect on the fuse blowing

please help. need this truck ,its my DD

May want to check the wires going to starter and see if yall got them pinched between bellhousing and block.

Check the wiring by the starter, but after that check the ECU. A buddy of mine had the exact same problem (kept blowing EFI fuse) and it was his ECU the whole time.

GOT IT

I know my dad didn't screw up on the clutch swap he never does.

It was my own stupidity.

My drivers side rug was lifting up and i didn't have the trim piece. so i screwed it down (yes im ghetto). those screws hit some wires and grounded them out, short circuited them, whatever you want to call them.

Took the screws out, taped them up and it started right up.

side note.

I thought it was my key cylinder so i took it all apart cleaned it and let it air dry. Now i don't have a stick key or one that doesn't want to turn.

May be something some people want to try if they are having the same problem
