2nd Gen stuck in driveway.

Alright, this question is for my brother in law. He has a 95 5 speed v6. He blew the gasket on his 4runner about a year ago now. It's been sitting in his driveway ever since. He just recently went to move it, he's on a hill, he released his parking brake, but the truck won't roll anywhere. He actually started it and tried to make it move with force from the drivetrain, but even giving it gas it won't budge. I'm assuming the brakes are rusted to the calipers or something like that. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? I live in Cali and He lives in Ohio. I don't get back very much, so I'm trying to talk him through it. Any help is appreciated.

Frozen brakes would be the easiest thing to check for, for sure. Tell him to pull the wheels off and get dirty.

it would likely be the rear. since the park brake was applied.

strange that it wouldnt break free trying to drive it tho.

if the shoes are rusted to the drums, hes going to have a hard time getting them unstuck. as in, he wont just take the tire off, and remove the drum. especially if the truck couldnt break it free...

id try it with the engine a few more times. in low, and rocking from forward to reverse. it should let go.

Check the ebrake cable first, it could be hung up, although he ought to be able to overcome that with engine power. Then pull the front wheels, and if the pads really are fused to the rotors, yeah, spraying/tapping/heat,etc, anything to make them budge. Tell him not to be afraid of damaging the pads and rotors because he'll be replacing them anyway. If he can unbolt the caliper and maneuver it off the rotor and just leave the pads stuck, that might be his best bet. If the front wheels spin free it's probably the rear, I would plan on pulling the axles and disassembling the drums on the bench in that case.

It's probably not a frozen trans/tcase, because he should be able to push it in neutral. It could possibly be the rear diff, I suppose.

you could always just hook it up and drag it with another truck to see if they break free

Wow... OK.. I'll let him give it a go in 4Lo to see if he can break it free. I just found out that I'm going to be back there in a little over a week, so I'll be able to help him then. You guys rock, I love this forum.
