2nd gen Tacoma rearend in 3rd gen 4Runner

Anyone ever do anything with a 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma rearend in a 3rd gen 4Runner?

Thinking it would be a good option for the lead spring conversion I’m starting to put together.

I would think a first generation tacoma would be easier. First generation tacoma with a locker is the same axle as a 3rd generation 4runner. I am relying on my memory so please do your research

I think 2nd gens are 65(?) WMS, less than tundra/t100/sequoia. You’ll be removing all mounts anyway so will be fine!

Not sure what 3rd gens are (besides expensive) as far as WMS

FWIW I snagged a disc to disc sequoia with 3rd for $200. The 1st gens are dirt cheap and I kinda like disc vs drum although I had to grind off the link hardware which took forever...

I want long travel leaf springs and longer shocks. I mostly use my 4Runner in the desert the stock link set up can’t keep up with the long travel front end. I also want to keep,it a 4seater and doing a traditional desert off road link system just isn’t in my budget persay. Leafs are are pretty simple and I can do most of the work at my house I think.

Cool man. I was figuring cost would be the factor. Doing what you want with coils/links would get expensive quick.

Since you'll be doing your own fab work look into 86-89 Toyota truck springs or 88-2014 Chevy 63" leafs. They can both be had for really cheap. A lot of 1st Gen Tacoma guys go one of those two routes. You could also have Deavers make you a custom set for exactly what you want but that would get expensive as well.

Mines at a shop as we speak since I can’t weld, but doing a SUA with 12” shackles on frame. If you want I’ll let you know how it turns out

I called Deaver and told them I was looking for something similar to the F67 pack the Tacoma folks use. They did a custom pack for right around $900 shipped. I'd give them a call for sure, they are great, and just talk them through what you want.
