2nd Gen wiper arm options?

I was told by the auto parts guy that there is only one option of wiper blades for my 4Runner, and they are the crappy ones that I hate. He said that because the 4Runner uses screw-mounted blades instead of the conventional ones everyone else uses, options are limited. Is this really true? If so, has anyone tried any aftermarket wiper arms that they can recommend?

This is just what I've read, I have ZERO experience with wiper blades on these trucks. I own a '95, but haven't driven it yet, so haven't had to worry about wiper blades. Pretty much every where I have looked, people recommend the OEM NWB or Denso blades. If you insist buying them at the store, go to Napa.

What I did on the kid's 2nd gen 4Runner was use 3rd gen arms from Pick-n-Pull. Think I paid $15 for the pair.
Hit 'em with some flat black paint, installed 'em and clipped in standard wipers.
The rear wiper blade is a dealership item and is actually not that expensive.

Looked at mine today, the 2 front ones must have been converted already, b/c they look like the ones on my taco. The rear one is the screw one. Dealer for that one, I guess....

I just replaced the rear on our '93 by buying the whole assembly from Autozone and removing the blade and stiffener bars and installing them into the original arm.
It cost $8.00 and seems to work so far.

Oddly enough, the guy at the parts store was wrong. Those screw-on parts were actually adapters that allow you to install normal wiper blades. I also fixed the wiper linkage. They had an enormous amount of play and would slap both the sides and bottom of the windshield seal. The main bearing connected to the motor had completely disintegrated, so I designed and manufactured a better-than-stock system using an off-the-shelf sealed bearing. It is totally silent with zero play. I'll do a write up on it if I ever find some spare time.

I just changed my wiper blades over to the slip on style with these i got on ebay. makes it so you can use a lot more options now.

you should be able to pick out any slip on type of wiper then, i know I can use any i want that slip on the hook now.
