I'm a 4x4 and 4Runner newbie and just got my 2015 4Runner Trail Premium today. I wanted to confirm which wheels are engaged when it's in 2WD. Is it rear or front wheel drive? Can anyone help answer this?

Unfortunate that Toyota cheaped out and no longer includes OM's with new vehicles.

Sooooo much easier to start a thread.

Are you asking seriously, or are you asking if the front hubs are spinning/engaged even if only the rear wheels are being powered as in you have to tow the truck on a flatbed?

Rear wheel drive

Is there even such thing as a part-time 4wd that's fwd when in 2wd? That's a lot of wds.

The closet thing I am aware of is a lot of the "real time AWD" type systems that are in traditionally FWD cars/CUV's (think Honda CRV, Toyota Matrix etc) they use hydaulics/clutch set up that essentially acts as FWD car unless the front slips (think its based on wheel speed) then power is sent to the rear wheels. I know this is not what you are asking but those are the closest thing I know of other then that I don't think a set up exists that its truly FWD when in 2wd.
