The videos that say they're going to take something off the engine and then the next shot is with the part out without showing how they did it are frustrating. We knew our video would be longer than most but believed people wouldn't mind the length if it gave them all the information they needed to get the job done right.

Yes, that's exactly what my frustration was! As a complete novice I was just completely lost with some of the info out there. I bookmarked this video earlier today so I have it again when I need it.

I'd also like to point out that I like how you guys are showing good organizational habits like drawing out the diagrams and laying out the pieces you remove in order on paper so you can label them. For the more experienced guys it is probably just a "good tip" but for some of the less experienced guys/gals it might save their bacon (and their truck!). It's something I picked up doing computer teardowns/repairs as a hobby, and it is incredibly helpful in preventing you from having a fully assembled truck with one bolt leftover

wow I had no idea it was that involved. Makes me miss my CR-V valve cover, just waited for you on the top. You could do a valve cover gasket replacement in the time it takes to drink one beer.

Easier would be good but then you'd miss the sense of accomplishment after removing all that crap off the top of your engine, getting it all back in place, not having any extra parts when you're done and then it starts and runs right.

After removing so many hoses and electrical connections, I have to admit I was crossing my fingers when I went to start my engine the first time I did this job. But, since I labeled everything and didn't have any leftover parts, I was fairly confident I did everything right.

I did a search online and found a set. I looked for a while hoping I would find a really affordable set but I found them to be fairly expensive. If I'm remembering correctly, I paid somewhere between $200 - $300 for the 2 book set.

There is an online version of the FSM on this forum. It's under the Master Directory Sticky link.

But, I found the online version to be hard to find what I'm looking for. I personally like having the books.

I would just do a Google search for your year 4runner and see what you come up with.
