3.slow Weight loss

I need to go back to work. 2 weeks off has my mind spinning too much.

So I am reading about issues with the 3.0 V6. One of the issues is that it just has too much weight to push in relation to it's power. While I think my 3.0 runs great, would reducing the weight of the vehicle improve performance? If so, is there any way to do this without compromising the integrity of the vehicle?

It will not create more engine power, but will make it seem like because there is less weight to push around.

With the limited power of the 3.0, it would be extremely difficult to remove enough to make much of a difference without compromising the truck. Most of the weight is in the frame and running gear, stuff you can't get rid of. Not to mention, nearly every mod is going to be adding weight right back on, so it would be a losing battle.

This is kind of what was on my mind. Trying to imagine what it will be like when I sliders and rear bumper. Not that I have any issues now,but just wondering. Getting rid of half or all of the doors will help.

i have 32s, automatic and regeared to 4.88. i can keep up and drive faster than most on the freeway with no problems. i can cruise at 70mph at 3000 rpm and keep going if i wanted to. was at 75mph at one time and didnt even know it

if yours is a 5 speed. i would look into regearing to 4.56
automatic, 4.88 might be too much so its up to you, 4.56 or 4.88

I'm at 4.56.I can do the same as you. Just thinking of ways to squeeze a little more up a hill oe in to a headwind.

Light weight rims and light weight tires.

And maybe some fiberglass panels. Not sure if they are actually lighter weight than the metal ones. But this seems like a large cost. fenders

Is the 91 a tailgate or a hatch? Maybe remove the tailgate. Or cutout ligth weight plexiglass replacements for the rear passenger door windows and the tailgate window.

Remove door windows and replace with "cool go fast looking" netting like the baja trucks

remove the carpeting.

Remove the cargo area side panels and trim.

I guess I'm just looking at it from a practicality point of view, expecially for a rig located in CO, where the elevation changes can make for inclement weather at any time of year. Anything that you would be losing will affect comfort and convenience--heating and cooling gear, protection from wind, rain, or snow, seating, sound and noise isolation, etc.. Do you REALLY want to be without these things, especially when it may mean the difference between having a fun time on an otherwise ugly day, or being miserable because some unforeseen weather snuck up on you? Just my opinion...

Yea. What exactly would you be removing? The heavy things can't. (Engine, frame, driveline, tranny). All the little bitty things you would think to pull don't make it worth it.

I have all the inside carpets removed, plus the rear seats and rear panels and trim removed. Not for weight reduction but for finding any rust and painting it. I haven't put it back in. I must say that it is noisy and if you have a little exhaust leak it finds its way inside and any other smells on the road come inside. I just throw some carpet and rubber mats over the floor holes. It helps.

As a daily driver. It would probably drive me nuts. But for a trial rig, on the weekend it is liveable.

There might be some power issues trying to keep highway speeds on an incline. But we aren't building race cars, down shifting does the job. On the trail in 4lo there is no lack of grunt.

while It probably did not eliminate much weight, I've taken off my running boards, rear bumper, and swapped spare for fix-a-flat (when around town only). But then again, I've not really noticed my 3.0 dogging too much. Sure it's 18 years old, but it's not THAT bad. Like ToyoTech, I can hit 75 no problem....although my 0-60 sure isn't breaking any records.

Yeah think about what they do in race cars to lose weight. Every little bit counts for them so like Can-03Runner said, the rear seats, the roof rack, lighter rims and tires, carpeting, interior panels all together gotta go. Fiberglass as much as possible, hood fenders etc. BUT from seeing your build and what your goals are, losing weight wouldn't help that much, re-gearing would help a ton.

... It is not so simple with the human body and sometimes it takes years to work to lose weight. For example, my mother really wanted to lose weight and did not know how to do it.

The problem with a large machine weight is very easy to solve and for this it is only necessary to replace heavy parts with other parts from a lighter material. It is not so simple with the human body and sometimes it takes years to work to lose weight. For example, my mother really wanted to lose weight and did not know how to do it. She tried various exercises and diets for several years, but nothing helped her and then she began to think about liposuction. Her friend began to dissuade my mother as soon as she found out about this and decided to help her. Once she told her mother that she had recently learned about a special weight loss course, which is very popular. After that, my mother found on the Internet a review of this course https://bigbluetest.org/cinderella-solution-review/ and acquired it. As a result, literally after a week, the results of diet and training were already noticeable and after 28 days, my mother lost 15 kilograms and she was very happy.

no kidding. this is a classic case of a spamtard joining and lurking for a few months and than playing thread archaeologist thinking no one will notice.
