30K service?

I'm thinking of buying a used 4Runner with 28K miles on it. It's on '04 V6 4x4 and in MINT condition. I was planning on buying new, but this deal might be too good to pass up.

The owner says that he changed the oil every 3,000 miles and hasn't done anything else at all expect replace the tires.

What should I expect as far as maintenance? Is anything due to be changed at 30K? New spark plugs? Air filter? Accessory drive belt? Or anything else?

1. Oil & filter -- obviously; as well as ensuring the chassis/driveshafts have been lubed.

2. Air filters -- both the one for the enigne; as well as the in-cabin air filter (behind the glove box).

3. Spark plugs - if you have the V6 model. The V8 plugs will go much longer, though.

4. Tire rotation, brake check and a nice 'detailing' job will keep you going strong!

Thanks for the info. This 4Runner definitely doesn't need to be detailed. It looks like it just came off the showroom floor. I looked it over very carefully and could not find a single flaw anywhere in the paint. Not even swirl marks in the paint. The owner is into detailing his cars, so it looks like he took incredible care of this 4Runner.

So I guess I'll have to do spark plugs and air filters mainly, then inspect the other items.

Ask the seller to get a Carfax report. If not, buy one. I'd rather invest $15 and not buying it rather than buying it and figuring out later all the $$$$ problems. That's just me.

I don't think I need one. I looked it over top to bottom and found no evidence of any body work or paint. If you know what to look for, you can always tell when a vehicle has had an accident repaired. I used to work in a body shop, so I have an advantage over most people when it comes to inspecting a used car for body work.

CarFax isn't totally accurate. If it's not reported DMV, it's not going to be on CarFax. My old car was in an accident, ran a CarFax on it, nothing. There was an insurance claim, so it's not a hush hush, paid cash to settle it. Not sure if it's possible to obtain or it's insurance carrier access only, but a CLUE report would be a better bet. It tells you every claim that's been made, be it by you, against you, on yours or another's policy.
